From our base at Kawau Island we would start with a visit to nearby Bon Accord Harbour where we can anchor in Mansion House Bay and visit the historic Mansion House – once a home of former Premier, Sir George Grey – and also briefly, the capital of New Zealand. Sailing around Kawau Bay there are many islands where you can stop off for lunch, have a swim or snorkel.
Your Itinerary:
Day 1 - Pickup from your hotel/or airport and transfer to the marina. A leisurely sail to the bottom end of Waiheke Island where we drop anchor for the night, enjoy sunset's "happy hour" and a real home cooked meal.
Day 2 - Sail across the Firth of Thames to the Coromandel Coast, with maybe a spot of fishing along the way before anchoring in Deep Water Cove.
Day 3 - Spend the day exploring Coromandel - if the tide is right, we'll take a dinghy up to the township's galleries and cafes - or take the bush railway up to Barry Brickell's pottery kilns (summer only), or enjoy a sail along the coast to Elephant Cove.
Day 4 - Big sail today (4 to 5 hours) to Kawau Island and anchor in Mansion House Bay where Governor Grey's mansion, reminds us of a bygone era.
Day 5 - Heading homeward again - pausing at Tiri Tiri Matangi Island to visit the bird sanctuary and then back to Half Moon Bay marina.
(This tour can be done in reverse, commencing from our Kawau Island base).
