A splendid driving safari visiting the highlights of Kenya and Tanzania experiencing a nice variety of habitats from arid plains and lush forested hills of Northern Kenya to the rich alkaline lakes of the Great Rift Valley, and climaxing at the world famous Maasai Mara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Accommodations are a wonderful mix of historic hotels, lodges, tented camps, and a tree hotel. The pace is comprehensive yet appealing to those looking to experience the magic of East Africa.

Your Itinerary:

Day 1 Arrive Nairobi, Kenya
On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta Airport, you are met by our local representative and transferred to your hotel for a welcome rest. Nairobi Serena

Day 2 Samburu National Reserve
Depart after breakfast and drive north via Nanyuki and Mt Kenya. After lunch at Trout Tree you continue to Samburu National Reserve. Rugged and remote, this wildlife reserve provides some of the best and most colorful game viewing in the country. Afternoon game drive returning to the lodge at sunset.

Day 4 Aberdares • Mount Kenya
After breakfast you drive to the Aberdare Mountains, situated in the shadow of Mt Kenya, Kenya's highest mountain. Arrive at your tree hotel in time for lunch. Afternoon at leisure to observe game coming to the waterhole. Serena Mountain Lodge (BLD)

Day 5 Lake Nakuru National Park
Depart after breakfast and drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, famous as the home to thousands of lesser and greater flamingo. This park also provides sanctuary for Rothschild giraffe, rhino and leopard. After lunch you go on an afternoon game drive. Kigio Wildlife Lodge or Sarova Lion Hill Lodge (BLD)


Day 6 Maasai Mara National Game Reserve
Depart after breakfast and drive to the Maasai Mara National Reserve offering wonderful scenery and plenty of game. It is perhaps the only region left in Kenya where the visitor may see animals in the same super-abundance as existed a century ago. Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge. Afternoon game drive until sunset.

Day 7 Maasai Mara National Game Reserve
Consider an optional balloon safari (extra cost). Early morning and afternoon game drive in search of the Big Five. The Maasai Mara is world famous for big game. Together with the adjoining Serengeti it is one of the only places in the world where it is still possible to see vast herds of grazing animals. And attracted by those huge herds, are the predators - lion, leopard, cheetah and more. However, a visit to the Mara is not only about seeing the "Big 5," it's also home to a wide variety of birds. Day 8 Serengeti National Park
Depart after breakfast and drive to the Isebania border, a new border crossing that enables us to avoid lengthy back tracking!! After completing immigration formalities and a picnic lunch, a game drive through the scenic Western Corridor of the Serengeti takes you to your deluxe tented lodge. Kirawira Camp (BLD)

Day 9 Serengeti National Park
The Maasai translation of Serengeti is endless plains. This expansive park, covering over 23,000 square miles, is home to thousands of animals and the spectacular migration. On early morning and afternoon game drives, go in search of the herds and their predators. Kirawira Camp (BLD)

Day 10 Olduvai Gorge • Ngorongoro Crater
This morning you drive to Olduvai Gorge, the famous archaeological site where the Leakey's uncovered 1.75 million year old humanoid fossils of Australopithecus, Homo Habilis and Homo Erectus. After a visit to the museum, continue to your lodge overlooking Ngorongoro Crater for lunch. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 11 Ngorongoro Crater
Half day crater tour. Descend 2000 feet on a winding Switch-back Track to the crater floor. This famous caldera covers an area of 102 square miles and is home to prides of lion, leopards, hippo, hyena, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra and thousands of antelope. Dinner and a spectacular sunset.

Day 12 Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast continue to Lake Manyara at the base of the Rift Valley Escarpment. An afternoon game drive in this wetland area will show you the rich bird life of Manyara, including flock of pink flamingos.

Day 13 Amboseli National Park
After breakfast you drive to Arusha and cross the Namanga border into Kenya. Drive to your lodge in Amboseli National Park for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive. While Kilimanjaro is actually across the border in Tanzania, Amboseli has a perfect view of this world's tallest freestanding mountain, at an impressive 5km above the plains. Day 14 Amboseli National Park
Morning and afternoon game drives. Amboseli is not a large park, but it offers you the best opportunity of seeing endangered black rhino and large herds of elephant. Amboseli Serena Lodge (BLD)

Day 15 Nairobi • Depart
After breakfast you return to Nairobi where you’ll have a farewell dinner at the famous Carnivore restaurant. Afterwards you are dropped off at the airport for your homebound flight. (BD)
