Val d’Isere is one of those names that become etched on your brain from the first time you read about it in a ski magazine or see it in a ski film. Known throughout the world as L’espace Killy (home of the great Jean Claude Killy), Val d’Isere, when combined with the neighboring Tignes, is considered one of the world’s largest ski areas. It has over 65,000 acres of skiing terrain - more than five times the size of Whistler/Blackcomb.
The area has a vertical drop of over 6,000 feet and more than 100 lifts, including two railways, four trams, four gondolas, 50 chair lifts, and 40 surface lifts. The top elevation of the area is the Grande Motte Glacier at 10,676 feet, virtually ensuring consistently good snow conditions. Val d’Isere has a night life that rages on until the wee hours of the morning. It is little wonder that Val d’Isere is rated one of the top ski resorts in Europe and possibly the world. Val d’Isere has it all!
Our home for the week is the 3-star - Hotel Mercure. This well positioned hotel in the village center about 50 me- ters from the ski lifts.
