Courmayeur, The Pearl of the Alps, is snuggled at the end of Italy’s Aosta Valley that towered over by the majestic scenery of the Mont Blanc mountain chain. It is perhaps, the most famous and certainly the oldest Italian alpine resort. Courmayeur has become one of the most important ski resorts in the world, knowing how to combine its spectaculular ski trails with rare glamour, making it a magical and exclusive place. It is approximately an hour's drive from Turin, site of the 2006 Olympic Games. An extended tour option will offer the chance to ski the Olympic resorts and explore this fascinating city.
This alpine village is more than just a little bit special. It has an atmosphere of easy going friendliness that is rare in this fast lane society. On weekends, and holiday seasons, Courmayeur takes on a distinctly Italian persona. During these periods, the narrow streets of the grand old village are alive with fur coats, grand fashion, and the Italian’s greeting "Ciao Bella". The village provides a cozy atmosphere with narrow cobblestone streets, small bars and fabulous restaurants. For skiing, the slopes are reached by cable cars stretching across the valley, and the short return to town is by bus.
During recent years the resort has invested heavily in snowmaking to ensure good snow conditions on the Val Veny side of the resort. Its star quality’s are found in the restaurants, where Italians seem to spend far more time than on the slopes. Skiing is as you like it. Lots of well groomed easy runs for cruisers, high mountain and bumpy black runs for better skiers and plenty of off piste powder runs on its high slopes. This is an active town with plenty of Après ski, disco 'til dawn, or sit back and sip some local wine.
The Hotel Cresta et Duc is a family run hotel well known for its good food and friendly staff, situated in a central and panoramic position just 200 metres from the cable-car. We will have a welcome cocktail in the tavern, candle light dinners with typical Aostan dinners and enjoy the piano bar and live music in the evenings. One evening the hotel provides free transfer to the St. Vincent Casino for those wishing to sample European gambling. All rooms have bath, cable TV, mini bar, telephone and hair dryer.
