The Marlborough Sound's best kept secret is the Nydia Track, a 27km trek through stunning native bush, across spectacular saddles, through regenerating forest and farmland and alongside still, emerald waters. Enjoy the charming accommodation place - Driftwood - nestled at the head of Nydia Bay This trip has all the components of a longer hike - birdlife, spectacular views and quality accommodation - in just two days!
Your Itinerary:
Day 1 - Kaiuma Bay to Nydia Bay.(approx. 4 hours/12.8km).
Wilderness Guides collect you from your accommodation in Blenheim or flight/ferry connection. Transfer by road to Kaiuma Bay near Havelock to begin the walk. Day 1 includes two saddles – the largest being the Kaiuma Saddle (387m) - affording spectacular views. Experience mainly regenerating native bush and open farmland before arriving at our accommodation this evening in Nydia Bay. Accommodation: Driftwood Homestay - a comfortable lodge where guides provide a fully catered overnight stay. Shared shower block facilities apply. Rustic but very charming.
Day 2 - Nydia Bay to Duncan Bay, Tennyson Inlet.(approx. 4 hours/13.5km).
Continue along the Nydia Track after a hearty breakfast prepared by your guide. Regenerating bush gives way to fine stands of rimu, nikau palms, beech forest & kamahi. A gradual descent takes trampers down through more fantastic native bush towards the emerald waters of Duncan Bay. Meet our van to transfer to your accommodation or transport connections.
