The Far North is our easiest trip. Plenty of swimming and snorkelling in secret coves of turquoise water, and lots of great day hikes. It is also a bit warmer in the 'winterless north'. Highlights include: remote coastal hiking near the Bay of Islands, open coast kayaking at Whangaroa, two days of isolation at the very northern tip of New Zealand. Driving along 90 Mile Beach and exploring Cape Maria Van Diemen. And of course sandboarding on the big Te Paki dunes!

Day 1 >> Drive to Bay of Islands. Explore beautiful remote coastline with sandy beaches before camping. 1-2 hours hiking.

Day 2 >> Hike up and down over headlands separating sandy coves. Explore historic whaling station. A swim before driving via Paihia to camp. 6 hours hiking.

Day 3 >> Sea kayaking (NZ$85) along coastline of volcanic headlands, beaches and through sea caves. Drive to Karikari Peninsula camp. 5 hours kayaking.

Day 4 >> Snorkel in bay, drive up 90 Mile Beach and sandboard on dunes. Set up camp then watch sunset from the edge of the world at Cape Reinga. 2 hours hiking.

Day 5 >> Explore coastline and hike through surreal dunescapes to Cape Maria Van Diemen. Drive south via Hokianga and camp in Waipoua Kauri Forest. 2-4 hours hiking.

Day 6 >> Visit the Trounson Kauri Reserve then drive to Auckland, arrive 3:00pm. 1 hour hiking.

Notes >> Tour is subject to tide times and sea conditions and may happen in a different order than stated above. During Xmas peak periods we stay at different campsites on nights two and three. Far North vehicle has snorkelling gear, boogie/sand boards and a barbecue.

Notes:
Airfare is not included in the tour price.

Additional costs >> Kitty fund for food and camp/hut fees is NZ$25/day. During winter (April - September) or wet weather summer safaris you may need to budget an extra NZ$10/day as we use alternative accommodation more often.

Optional activities >> Sea Kayaking NZ$85. Kitty fund and optional activities are paid for during the trip.
