We climb Mt. Botev - the highest peak of the Balkan Mountains (2376 m a.s.l.) and enjoy the imposing view of the low-lying mountain of Sredna Gora and the fertile Thracian Valley. After descending the extremely steep southern slope of the Balkan (Tarzan's walkway) we visit the little town of Kalofer. The huts in the mountains lie like pearls on a thread and there are walking paths in between. We have high-trained English-speaking mountain guide all the time.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival at Sofia Airport and transfer to Beklemeto pass in the Balkan Mountains where we stay overnight.

Day 2: In the morning we start from Beklemeto towards the peak parts of the mountains to Troyan pass, continuing west to the southern slopes of Kozyata Stena reserve. The northern slopes of Kozyata Stena (1562 m a.s.l.) house a good population of the Edelweiss, flowering here during summer. The way leads now northwest to Haidushka pesen hut and further to the village of Chiflik. Transfer to Beklemeto for overnight. (6-7 hours walk)

Day 3: Walk from Beklemeto to Dermenka hut. Descent through the Steneto reserve, which is included in the World Network of Biosphere reserves in ward of UNESCO due to its virgin nature, to the village of Cherni Osam. Transfer to Troyan Monastery and short stroll among the monastery walls and the nearby museum of local crafts “Oreshaka”. Transfer to Apriltsi and overnight. (6 hours walk)

Day 4: Short sightseeing trip in Apriltsi, providing a good insight into the local way of living and walk along one of the new local eco-paths (offering magnificent view to the mountains and its giant – peak Vihren) to Pleven hut (where we stay overnight). (3 hours walk).

Day 5: Walk from Pleven hut by the peak “Kostenurkata” (The Tortoise) and the upper parts of the “Old River” reserve to Vasil Levski hut, where we stay overnight. (4-5 hours walk)

Day 6: From Vasil Levski hut the waymarks lead to the highest peak of the Balkan Mountains - Mount Botev (2376 m a.s.l.). The peak of Botev is also the third largest in Bulgaria, after Musala and Vihren. From the peak the track weaves among the rocky slopes of the mount to the precipice of the Southern Dzhendem, passing at the end by the Heavenly rocks and the Heavens waterfall (Raiskoto pruskalo). With a height of 124.5 m Raiskoto pruskalo waterfall is the highest one not only in Bulgaria, but also on the whole Balkan Peninsula. We stay overnight in Rai hut. (6 hours walk)

Day 7: After breakfast we make a descent along the stream of Toundzha River to the resort settlement Panitsite. From here we have a transfer to the city of Plovdiv, where we stay overnight. (3 hours walk)

Day 8: In the morning we head to Sofia Airport for departure.

Accommodation and boarding: We stay in small hotels in Beklemeto (2 nights), Apriltsi (1 night) and Plovdiv (1 night) on HB, and in mountain huts (3 night) on FB. The hotels have private facilities in each room while in the mountain huts baths and toilets are shared with few other rooms.

Luggage transportation: Unnecessary luggage will be transported from Beklemeto to the hotel in Apriltsi (day 3) and taken again from Apriltsi (on day 4) it will be received in the hotel in Plovdiv (on day 7).

Extension to the Black Sea is possible: This is a unique proposal, which gives you the opportunity to stay in Bulgaria for one week more at the incredibly low price! We can offer a great variety of means of accommodation - from home stays (no meals) to 2, 3 and 4-star hotels (BB or HB) on the Southern Bulgarian Black Sea Coast:

- Sunny Beach - a big modern resort with hundreds of hotels, cafes, pubs, casinos, water-sports facilities etc.

- Nessebar, Sozopol - small towns (founded by the ancient Greeks) with picturesque Old Quarters and a specific atmosphere.

- Lozenetz - a peaceful small village with a beautiful beach. Only 4-5 km from the forests of the Strandzha Mountains where you can go walking, biking or riding horses.
