Southern Alps Guiding Mt Cook is a highly regarded guiding operation located among some of the most spectacular alpine terrain in the world. We guarantee personalised service and cater for any adventure you wish to pursue.

Low Guide-to-Client ratios on courses and guided ascents ensure that your safety, enjoyment and expectations are fulfilled. Climbing with a guide is the safest and most informative way to extend your climbing abilities...whether you are contemplating a trans-alpine crossing, ascending the highest peaks, or climbing technically demanding routes.

There are many exciting areas in and around the Mt Cook National Park that are excellent venues for climbing instruction and mountain climbing. The Pioneer and Tasman glacier regions are ideal for this. They offer great climbing on 2500-3000m peaks and vast areas of glaciated terrain perfect for Alpine instruction, ski mountaineering and mountaineering.

The type of trip that would run from these areas on a 6-10 day trip would be to fly into the upper Neve by a ski equipped plane or helicopter. Instruction will be on snow, ice and rock belays/anchors, crevasse rescue techniques, glacier travelling, and ice and snow climbing. These techniques are put to the test by climbing some of the fine peaks these areas have to offer. On days where adverse weather will not permit outside instruction, lessons on navigation, avalanche hazard assessment and mountain weather will take place. At the end of your trip you should be able to complete climbs and pass trips to Alpine grade 1-2. With progression and added milage and experiences you will be able to plan and create some great trips for yourselves.

Airfare is not included in the tour price.
