Considered one of the three premier wine regions of Italy, Friuli is widely regarded as the home of Italy's best white and dessert wines. This tour combines two winemaking areas that are well known to wine connoisseurs: Colli Orientali and the Collio, which boast celebrities such as Tocai Friulano, Ribolla Gialla and the rare Picolit. Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Pinot grigio are also fine international varieties along with some reds of excellent quality and taste such as Cabernet, Schiopettino, Refosco, Merlot and the rare Pignolo.
The tour starts in Udine itself, leaving the city to the east in direction of Cormons, capital of the Collio wine district and home to the famous "Wine of Peace", made from the blend of over 500 different types of grapes grown in the "Vineyard of the World". We'll stop in a couple of wineries to learn about the winemaking process and taste excellent wines before proceeding towards Cividale del Friuli driving along a spectacular route, which runs along prestigious wine estates and beautiful countryside.
A stop in this charming little city is a must not only for the outstanding wine produced here but also to enjoy the delicious regional food and taste Gubana, an exquisite local dessert. The tour draws to a close with a visit to another winery in the Colli Orientali with enchanting views over a breathtaking landscape.
