Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival at Udine train station and transfer to your chosen accommodation. Check-in and free time to explore the surroundings before enjoying your dinner at your hotel or at a typical local restaurant.
Day 2: Breakfast. Morning: guided tour of your host town, Udine, whose flavour is distinctly Venetian as the town hall looks like a mini Doge's palace and the clock tower is an exact replica of the one in St. Mark's square. We'll stroll down the most characteristics streets before reaching the beautiful castle on a top of a hill from where we'll enjoy wonderful views over the town and the unique countryside with the gorgeous Alps on the background. Lunch at a local trattoria.
Afternoon: Guided excursion to Cividale, a little gem in the eastern foothills of Friuli, known for its delicious Gubana (an exquisite type of strudel filled with apples, pine seeds and raisins), top wines and lovely atmosphere that you can breathe strolling around the narrow cobble stone streets leading to the charming main square. Return to your accommodation in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Breakfast. Full-day excursion to Slovenia, a small neighboring country renowned for its beautiful coast and charming little port towns, stunning caves, characteristic alpine lakes and a wonderful mittel-European capital. Our day in Slovenia includes a visit to the spectacular Postojna cave complex, which can be explored partly on foot and partly by electric train, and a visit to Ljubljana, Slovenia's attractive medieval and cosmopolitan capital. We'll visit the cathedral, the Triple Bridge, the famous open market and the medieval historic center before returning to your accommodation in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Breakfast. Morning: Guided excursion to Trieste, the capital of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, set between the blue waters of its gulf, the green hills and the white rocks of the Carso plateau. Visit the city's historical center followed by lunch in a typical local restaurant. Afternoon: Tour continuation with a visit to the splendid Miramar Castle, the romantic residence of Maximilian from Hapsburg and Charlotte from Belgium. Return to your accommodation in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Breakfast. Full-day excursion to Austria, whose border is only about one-hour drive from Udine. We'll spend a fantastic day in Carinthia, visiting the enchanting medieval town of Villach full of shops, lovely courtyards and outdoor cafés where you can savor the exquisite Austrian cakes. In the afternoon, a short drive will take us to the charming lakeside town of Velden, Carinthia's most elegant holiday resort. We'll have some time to stroll along the splendid promenade before taking an optional boat cruise on the calm waters of Lake Wörth, against a backdrop of snowy peaks. Return to your accommodation in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Breakfast. Morning: Guided excursion to Aquileia, the most important Roman archaeological site in northern Italy. Founded in 181 B.C., Aquileia still preserves remains of the forum, Roman public baths and private houses and the ancient basilica which hosts one of the largest and most spectacular early Christian mosaics of the West. Lunch at a local trattoria/agriturismo and return to your accommodation. Free dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Breakfast. Check-out and transfer to Udine train station. Arrivederci!
