If your flight arrived late afternoon we recommend overnight in San Jose .
DAY 1:
We will enjoy an early afternoon drive through the Talamanca Mountain Range, having lunch at a nice restaurant on our way. Shortly before dinner at Hotel del Sur, we will have an informative conversation about Chirripo Mountain and our activities during the trip.(L-D)
DAY 2:
We will leave at 4:00 a.m. towards San Gerardo de Rivas, where our hike will start. After approximately 8 hours of hiking, we will arrive at a shelter where we will spend the night.
DAY 3:
Early in the morning we will start our 3-hr hike to the summit of Chirripo Mountain, the highest peak in the country (3,819 masl). We will find two crystal-clear water lakes formed by glacial action about 25,000-30,000 millions years ago. They are surrounded by stunted vegetation. We will also visit Morrenas Valley, a U-shaped valley with moraine deposits formed by the action and movement of masses of ice. After over 6 hours of hiking we will go back to our shelter.(B-L-D-S)
DAY 4:
Today we will climb to the Crest Stones. This is only a one-hour hike, yet challenging because it is so steep. The Crest Stones are visible from the base side, as they spontaneously and awkwardly sprit from the ground. We will see Dikevi Lagoon and the horizon in every direction. (B-L-D-S)
DAY 5:
This morning we will head to Ventisquero Mountains, for a 6-hr hike, but a bit easier than the others. We will have an incredible view of 180 degrees.(B-L-D-S)
DAY 6:
After a good breakfast we will initiate our way back to San Gerardo de Rivas, where our vehicle will be waiting to take us back to San Jose. B-L-D-S)
