DAY 1
Arrive at the Hosea Kutako International Airport (Windhoek) where you will meet your tour leader. Our comfortable 4x4 vehicles will transport you to a scenic lodge situated ± 11 kilometres from the airport. Tour briefing and an induction course on dirt road motorbike riding will follow upon arrival at the lodge. You are now ready to get your first taste of African dirt roads and will have plenty of time during the rest of the day to familiarize yourself with the motorbike you will be using during the tour.
Final tour administration and planning will be concluded before dinner is served at the lodge while you enjoy the opportunity to acquaint yourself with your tour hosts and fellow participants.
Lodge accommodation will provide sufficient comfort for a good night’s rest prior to the first day of serious riding.
DAY 2
Early wake up call by your tour leader and a hearty Namibian breakfast at the lodge will set you up for your first stretch of true adventurous dirt road riding. En route to our destination at Omaruru you will get your first opportunity to experience the splendid beauty of the Namibian landscape. A gravel road will take you to Okahandja where you can witness the Omatako Mountains (Herero for buttocks) north of Okahandja. Self catering chalets at a lodge near Omaruru will provide the ideal setting to unwind from the first day of riding. A variety of game at the lodge will introduce you to the Namibian wildlife. Optional game drives can be arranged. After the game drive the camp fire will be lit for a traditional Namibian braai. The waterhole will provide the ideal setting for a night cap to conclude the day.
DAY 3
After breakfast at the lodge we will visit the winery and the traditional wood carvers in Omaruru before we depart for Outjo. On our way to Outjo we will stop for snacks and drinks at the Dinosaurus footprints. Your private dome tent will provide sufficient shelter against the elements of nature but still allow you to enjoy the adventure of outdoor living. Traditional Namibian food will be prepared on open fire.
DAY 4
A wake up call at the crack of dawn and a scrumptious breakfast at the lodge will prepare you for the longest stretch of the tour. A gravel road will take us to Otavi where snacks and drinks will be served. From Otavi we will travel to the mining town of Kombat where copper and silver is mined at Kombat mine. Our next stop is at the world renowned Hoba meteorite near Grootfontein. The evening will be spent around the campfire at the rustic Lapa (Africa Bike Tours base camp) overlooking the waterhole. Your hosts will be treating you with their personal favorite outdoor recipes prepared on open fire while you share stories of your motorbike adventure with fellow participants. A night cap will be served on the deck from where you can witness the wildlife activity at the waterhole. The sounds of nocturnal wildlife will carry you off to dreamland in your private dome tent.
DAY 5
The call of the guinea fowl at the waterhole will declare day brake and and wake you up for a traditional farmers breakfast prepared on open fire. Participants can now choose between 2 activities for the day.
1) Motorbike trip to the Khorab German war shelters, Gaub caves & Otjikoto lake. A round trip of 200km will take you to the Khorab German war shelters. Drinks and snacks will be served before we head off to the Gaub caves via the Tierkloofpas. En route back to Uris Lodge we will be visiting the fascinating Otjikoto Lake.
The lake is a sinkhole of some 100m by 150m formed by underground water that dissolved the dolomite rock to form a huge cavern, the roof of which subsequently collapsed. The endangered Otjikoto tilapia fish species is found here and in only one other place, the nearby Lake Guinas.
2) Day trip with our comfortable 4x4 vehicles to Etosha National Park. Both groups will be spending another night camping under the African skies at the Lapa. After a sundowner at the waterhole participants can unwind around the campfire while dinner is prepared.
DAY 6
After breakfast at !Uris Lodge we will depart for Herero land via Tierkloof. The majestic landscape of Herero Land will provide the back drop for the last stretch of the day towards the Waterberg Plateau area with its impressive steep-sided cliffs. The cliffs of the Waterberg are the habitat of Namibia’s only breeding population of Cape vultures. A nearby lodge will provide accommodation and dinner for the night.
DAY 7
After breakfast at the lodge we will depart for Okahandja where we will be stopping for souvenir hunting at the informal markets established by Kavango woodcarvers. On display are household implements, masks and furniture carved from teak wood.
From Okahandja we will proceed to a lodge near the Hosea Kutako International Airport for the last night of the tour. Our comfortable 4x4 vehicles will transport participants to Windhoek for dinner at the famous Joe’s Beerhouse where generous portions of excellent Namibia and German food can be enjoyed in the cozy atmosphere of this unique pub and restaurant with its very original witty decor.
DAY 8
Our 4x4 vehicles will take you on a day visit to various historical places and places of interest in Windhoek after breakfast at the lodge. A light meal will be served during the day. Later during the day you we will drive you to Hosea Kutako International Airport for your return flight.
