Let nature dazzle your senses. This is the ultimate First Nation culture and nature tour. This provides the opportunity to safely view Coastal Grizzly Bear and Black Bear. Leave from Parksville at 6:30am. Return by 6:30pm. Adventure time: 12 hours.
You will meet Kwakwak'awakw Hamac'a, Thomas Sewid, when you board Tom's 34 foot aluminum tour boat, the "Gla-Lis" (Finning Whale). Tom greets you on the dock in full First Nations regalia. (button blanket, button apron, grizzly claw necklace and cedar bark head piece with abalone frontlet).
During the autumn there are many salmon rivers to watch bear and eagles feeding on salmon. On some river systems there are bear watching platforms that we use right along the salmon spawning areas. At one river we sit on a covered patio of a cookhouse for Native Guardians, and watch the bears feeding in the river on salmon, eating grass on the banks, digging roots in the estuary grasslands, and feeding from fruit trees. This is truly an experience unique in this world.
