Spectacular frozen waterfalls, deep untouched powder snow, majestic peaks, clear, crisp air, and an abundance of wildlife combined with cozy mountain lodges and western hospitality are the main ingredients for this week of active adventures in Winter Wonderland. On this trip we trade in our bikes for x-country skis and snowshoes to venture into a kingdom of snow and ice. Both activities are easy to learn and provide the perfect means of transport to explore this winter mountain wilderness. At the end of fun-filled days we will retreat to the rustic mountain lodges of Banff and Yoho National Parks to soak up the warmth of crackling fireplaces. Winter is a special time to enjoy the Rockies in their full splendor. If you are looking for a magical Winter Wonderland experience this trip is for you!

Your Itinerary

Day 1: After meeting in Banff we will take the shuttle bus along the Bow River to world renowned Lake Louise. Here we will fit you with snowshoes and x-country skis. After we are all geared up we will set out for an afternoon snowshoe hike across Lake Louise towards the Plain of Six Glaciers. At Chateau Lake Louise you may have a look at the marvelous ice sculptures. After expending all that energy snow shoeing we will return to our lodge to enjoy a deluxe welcome dinner.

Day 2: Today we will be driving up the Icefields Parkway to its highest elevation at Bow Summit. The historic Num-Ti-Jah Lodge, built by Jim Simpson, one of the Rockies true legends will be our home for the next two days. By snowshoe we will explore the area which once was Jim's trap line. On our hike we will be trying to spot ptarmigans in their winter white feathers half hidden in the snow or the tracks of hares and coyotes woven through the forest floor. After a satisfying three course dinner you may want to gather around the fireplace and read, play cards, or simply relax, and let the warmth of the fire seep into you.

Day 3: After an energizing buffet breakfast we will x-country ski across Bow Lake along the backbone of the Continental Divide. The air is quiet, the skies are blue and the snow is deep and untouched. After a night's snowfall blankets the world up here, it may appear as if it is experiencing it's first day. Picture yourself gliding through a sparkling white untouched duvet across a land of dazzling beauty. After a day in the crisp mountain air we will return to our lodge for dinner where afterwards you may want to linger in front of the fireplace with a cup of hot tea.

Day 4: Today we will be shuttled across the Continental Divide into Yoho National Park. Here we will truly experience the wonder of winter as we leave our van behind and make the 11km trek by ski with our luggage following along by dogsled into the back country of Lake O'Hara to our lodge. This lodge, famous for its remoteness is surrounded by many small lakes and majestic peaks and provides the perfect variety of terrain for both novice and intermediate skiers and snowshoers. We will be spending tonight and tomorrow night at this Rocky Mountain gem so get settled in and let's go exploring.

Day 5: Today our mountain guide will lead you by snowshoe up to an alpine pass where you will be rewarded with stunning views of the glaciers, snow-capped peaks and valleys below. Upon our return the sauna will be a warm welcome at the end of a truly satisfying day. After we are all warmed up on the outside from our sauna we will warm the inside with a wonderful farewell gourmet dinner.

Day 6: On our last day we will ski back to the Trans Canada Highway in the morning where we will be shuttled back to Banff to top off the week by soaking in the Banff Hot Springs overlooking the town of Banff and the Bow Valley. Then it is time to say goodbye. After you return home the memories of all you have experienced and seen of the grand splendor of Winter Wonderland in the Rockies will linger in your mind urging you to return again to this magical place.
