Combine these with a variety of exciting activities, including trekking, rafting, canoeing, 4WD safaris and camping - and you can look forward to a really unforgettable active holiday.
Your Itinerary
Day 1: Airport/ Colombo – Kandy. Leave for Kandy visiting the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage en-route. This orphanage for baby elephants was established to feed, nurse & house young elephants found abandoned by their mothers.
Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings, which fell to the British in 1815. This hill capital is situated in a valley 1600 feet above sea level, surrounded by mountains & virtually encircled by the scenic Mahaweli river; the longest in Sri Lanka. Dinner and overnight will be at the Hotel Suisse or Tree of Life.

Day 2: Kandy – Trekking. Breakfast will be at the Tree of Life Hotel. The vehicle will drop you off at the point to start your walk which covers the 700 year old Western Shrines of Kandy. The 3-Km walk along gravel roads and footpaths takes you across traditional Kandyan Villages, where you could experience their rural social conditions along the way.
You will arrive at the Gadaladeniya Rock Temple 1 ½ hours later. You will be given a brief description of the temple's history. You could also spend some time speaking to some of the devotees. Leave for the Lankathilake Blue Temple, which is another half an hours' walk. You will be given a brief tour of the temple, after which you can enjoy your picnic lunch in a spot close to the temple, taking in the beautiful scenery of the surrounding area.
Another 1 ½ Km walk through village byroads will bring you to the world famous Embekke Wooden Temple. A superb example of the island's architecture in wood & dedicated to the god Kataragama or Skanda believed to have been built in 1371 AD. The temple boasts over 100 intricately carved wooden pillars. The vehicle will bring you back to the Hotel Tree of Life for dinner & overnight.

Day 3: Kandy – Knuckles. Today you will be visiting the Knuckles mountain range. Its name describes its outline. The Knuckles Range consists of the Knuckles massif, the Knuckles range and the Knuckles peaks. There are 35 peaks rising to more than 3000 feet (915 m) in the Knuckles range. You will arrive at the mountain cottage tucked away in a remote village, where you will spend the night.

Day 4: Knuckles - Trekking. Trek from Corbette’s Gap to Meemure, Yakagala (Devil’s Rock), Nitre Cave in Knuckle’s mountain range – this ‘hard’ trek of about 8-9 hours, will take the whole day. You will be back at the cottage in the evening.

Day 5: Knuckles - Randenigala. Leave for Randenigala after breakfast. You will pass the precipitous 17 hairpin bends, and the beautifully terraced paddy fields of Minipe. Dinner and overnight will be at Randenigala.

Day 6: Randenigala. You will get the opportunity to visit Sri Lanka's indigenous inhabitants, the Veddas or Wanniyela Aettho ('forest-dwellers') as they call themselves; who preserve a direct line of descent from the island's original Neolithic community dating from at least 14,000 BC and probably far earlier.
If time permits, visit the picturesque Ulhitiya Reservoir. You might be able to see the wild elephants on the opposite bank of the reservoir, feeding on the vegetation. Return to Randenigala for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Randenigala – Badulla - Ella. Today you will drive through Scenic remote countryside passing beautiful paddy fields, lakes, reservoirs and mountain passes. You will arrive at the scenic village of Karandagolla, Ella, where you will spend overnight.

Day 8: Ella, Trekking. Wake up early to start on your trek to Meedeniya, a self-sufficient village in the jungle which is accessible only by Thawalama (Bullock Cart caravan). Picnic breakfast could be had en-route. This 5 Km trail goes through paddy fields, a 3km walk through forest, a hill, along the ridge down to the village and back along the same route. eturn to the resort for lunch. Afternoon will be at leisure. Dinner and overnight at Ella Adventure resort.

Day 9: Ella – Rekawa. Leave for the jungles of Uda Walawe this morning. Go on a 4WD safari of Uda Walawe National Park in the afternoon. Herds of elephant can be seen along the river during the dry season, which is usually between May & September. You will be taken to Rekawa to spend the night at Centuria.

Day 10: Rekawa – Unawatuna. Drive along the beautiful southern coastline. Reach the village of Unawatuna where you could relax on one of the top beaches in the world. Overnight will be at the Unawatuna Beach Resort.

Day 11: Unawatuna – Kalawana. You will visit the Dutch Fort of Galle, which is a world heritage site. The Fort still houses many important government buildings as well as residences. Proceed to Kalawana, where you will be staying at the delightful Boulder Garden.

Day 12: Kalawana - Sinharaja. Today you will be visiting the Sinharaja Rainforest. Literally meaning ‘Lion King’ in Sinhala, this is the last remaining virgin rainforest in Sri Lanka. Regarded as a birdwatcher’s paradise it also contains close to fifty percent of Sri Lanka’s endemic mammals & butterflies. Return to Boulder Garden for dinner and overnight.

Day 13: Kalawana – Kitulgala. Leave Kalawana for Kitulgala for some flat-water rafting, this morning. The whitewater rafting in flat water, will cover about 3 Km and of about one hour’s duration. Dinner and overnight will be at Rafter’s Retreat.

Day 14: Transfer out. You will be taken to either a Colombo hotel or the Airport today.
