Soar through a land frozen in time as we bike the Apennine mountain range, the backbone of the Italian peninsula. Follow gorgeous roads through the plains of Umbria and the spectacular mountain scenery of Abruzzo. Offering solitude and grandeur, this fantastical escape intertwines enchanting pockets of civilization with ancient culture and unsurpassed beauty.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Spoleto - Embark with a walking tour of Spoleto’s Renaissance architecture.
Day 2: Todi - Loop through a patchwork of farmland, sunflower fields and vineyards via Montefalco.
Day 3: Ascoli Piceno - Transfer to Norcia, famous for its prosciutto, then climb to the Sibillini mountains.
Day 4: Fonte Cerreto - Enter Abruzzo, a land with dramatic views. Visit the ceramic center of Castelli.
Days 5 - 6: Caramanico Terme - Take in pristine Alpine scenery and crisp mountain air as we spin along an upland basin covered with wildflowers (spring) and wheat fields (autumn). A 10-mile descent to elegant Capestrano follows. On Day 6, pamper yourself with an optional spa day in Caramanico Terme, a hike to the Maiella National Park, and a typical mountain dinner.
Day 7: Scanno - Ride along the foothills of La Maiella, followed by a roller-coaster descent to Sulmona, famous for its aqueduct and palace.
Day 8: Celano - Ride through the Abruzzo National Park and climb the Devil’s Pass.
Days 9 - 10: L'Aquila - Climb toward Ovindoli, a ski resort at the base of Monte Sirente. The most exhilarating descent is to L’Aquila. Spend the afternoon exploring Romanesque architecture. After breakfast on Day 10, we will shuttle you two-hours to Rome.
