To define Andalucia merely as "Spain's southernmost region" is to only scratch the surface of a true travel gem. Here you'll encounter vestiges of the Roman empire... traces of the Moorish inhabitants of centuries past... and charming whitewashed villages perched high in mountains or along sandy shores. With engaging locals and tantalizing food and wines, it's a paradise for cyclists.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1-2: Sevilla - Spin along the river Guadalquivir to see the famous Torre d'Oro. On day 2, cycle outside the gorgeous city of Sevilla through the Donana National Park, a marshy area that is unique for its great bird-watching. Relax under the pine trees and enjoy a picnic.
Day 3: Palma del Rio - Today we wind along the fertile valley of the Guadalquivir. You'll be amazed by the bold colors of its orange groves, olive groves, and dazzling sunflowers. In the evening we'll stop at Palma del Rio, a secluded country town.
Days 4 - 5: Cordoba - On day 4, it's on to Cordoba, stopping to admire a 14th century Gothic fortress. Cordoba is famous for its Roman, Moorish, Jewish and Christian roots. As you wander through its cobbled streets, try to catch a glimpse of the beautiful, yet hidden, private garden patios. The next day, savor the rolling hills of olive trees as far as the eyes can see. En route, we'll view farms, mills and olive oil presses which add to the serene Andalucian countryside. Tonight, enjoy a superb cooking lesson before strolling through the quaint small squares.
Day 6: Sierra Subbetica - Ride to the southeast corner of the Cordoba province, an area known for its olive growing and picturesque Andalucian towns. We'll pass through the Subbetica Natural Park en route to our destination, Priego, where you won't hear much English spoken.
Days 7 - 8: Antequera - Spin through the Sierra foothills to a gorge with astonishing views, then on to charming, cobblestoned Antequera. On day 7, we'll ride through the heavily forested Sierra Morena before making our way to Loja. A Moorish fortress, which sits in the 'old quarter' dominates the skyline of this hilltown.
Day 9: Rio Frio
Today we'll zigzag through the Genil River Valley to Granada, the crown jewel of Moorish Kingdoms. Relax and enjoy the breathtaking sunset over the magnificent Alhambra Palace.
Day 10: Hasta Luego!
Stay on to visit the monuments and jewels of Granada. Perhaps you'll stop to sample the local tapas or escape to the Sierra Nevada. If you would like to visit the Alhambra Palace, we recommend you buy tickets in advance. Whatever your travel plans may be, we are happy to assist you with any arrangements! Gracias!
