The peak of Mt. Borah stretches high above the other mountains of central Idaho's Lost River Range. At 12, 655 feet, Borah is the tallest mountain in Idaho, and Borah's north face is home to one of the west's classic ice-climbing routes. Participants serious about the summit attempt should be in excellent physical condition and actively prepare for the trip. For participants who want to learn ice skills and visit the alpine environment, but not attempt the summit, good physical condition is adequate.

Your Itinerary

Day 1: Our five-day expedition into one of Idaho's most spectacular mountain regions begins with a six mile hike in to set up a base camp below the north face of the mountain. The camping area is beautiful, has easy access to a good practice area for learning ice techniques, and the views are incredible!

Days 2 - Day 3: You'll spend the next two days learning from your expert guides. They will help you become familiar with the skills necessary for a summit attempt. The technique sessions will include use of crampons and ice axes, rope handling, belaying, and rappelling.

Day 4: On the fourth day, those who would like to attempt the summit will climb in small teams with a guide leading each rope team. We will begin before dawn and the attempt will take the entire day. We don't always make it, but the process is always a memorable and rewarding experience. If you love the high alpine and are looking for a great challenge, this is as good as it gets! If you don't want to attempt the summit you can do more climbing around the base camp, or just relax and enjoy the views.

Day 5: On the fifth day we'll breakdown the base camp and hike back to the trailhead. The trip includes transportation from Idaho Falls to the trailhead, and back to Idaho Falls.

Notes:
Airfare is not included in the tour price.

Cost: $1,250.00. The trip begins and ends in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
