Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Fly to Zurich Airport
Leave your hometown and fly to Zurich, Switzerland, arriving the following day.
Day 2: Transfer to Kandersteg/Bernese Oberland
By train to Kandersteg (3858’), a resort but still also a village with many resident farmers and cattle breeders of the worldknown Simmental race. It looks like a typical Swiss village with its old farmhouses and geraniums spilling from window boxes on the balconies. Kandersteg is the north portal to the Lötschbergtunnel, the international railway between Germany, Switzerland and Italy. After arrival a short visit of the village. stay at ***Hotel Victoria Ritter.
Day 3: Oeschinensee Lake
A chairlift/Gondola takes us up to Oeschinen/Läger from where you walk down To Oeschinensee/Lake (5177’) in the heart of the Bernese Oberland. The Lake is known for it’s gorgeous deep blue color and its phantastic views.... The Blümlisalp and its peak “Wyssi Frau”, means white woman ((12,410’). After a lunch stop at the lake you walk back over pastures and forestsWith pine- and larchtrees back to the valley . (265’ elevation gain, 1985’ Loss, 3,75 miles, 3 hours hiking). Day 4 Tuesday: Undere Allme
Short ride on a village-bus to Filfalle. After a short while you are leaving the Kandervalley and entering in the Ueschinen-valley, cattle breeding Area and you might even see Marmottes and Chamois. Crossing again pastures and forests you arrive at Usser Ueschine and walk on an altitude of 5950’ on a real Panoramic Trail with spectacular views to the opposite high peaks and down to the valley. you get finally to Undere Allme (5858’) A spot with a few farmhouses and a mountain restaurant. By cable car Back to the bottom of the valley and short walk to our Hotel. (2037’ elevation Gain, 245’ loss, 3,75 miles, 3.15 hours hiking.) B. at Hotel Victoria Ritter
Day 5: Lötschberg Southramp – Zermatt /Valais
Train ride through the Lötschbergtunnel to Hohtenn (3913’). Hiking the famous South-Ramp (Valais), also called “the Classique” of all Panoramatrails. You will be fascinated by the steady changing of northern and southern Flora and Fauna, the very old “Suonen” (water-pipes) and the darkbrown Farmhouses with its stone-pedestals.The South Ramp leads us on 5,6 miles and an average altitude of 3400’ to the village of Ausserberg and its flowers garden. Train ride again down to Brig and from there via Visp To Zermatt. (elevation gain and loss changing, approx 235’, 5,6 miles,
3hours hikingtime). B. at Hotel Victoria Ritter, our Hotel in Zermatt is the Butterfly***.
Day 6: Zermatt – Gornergrat
Short visit of Zermatt-village (5494’). Then by train up to Rotenboden. On your rigth you will have a phantastic view to the Matterhorn-peak (15225’), Breithorn, Castor & Pollux, Liskamm and the highest peak Monte Rosa/Dufourspitze (15756’). You get off the train at Rotenboden (9571’) and hike up to Gornergrat, where you have a fantastic views of the Gorner glacier, Theodul – and Z’Muttglaciers. It will be worth of course staying a while up there and having lunch. Continuing all along the Gornerglacier down to Riffelsee (lake) – Gagenhaupt to Riffelberg (8724’). Trainride back to Zermatt.( elevation gain 952’, 1799’ loss, 4,4 miles, 4.00 hours hiking time). B. at Hotel Butterfly
Day 7: Zermatt – Schwarzsee
Cable-car rides from Zermatt village up to Furi and Schwarzsee (8782’). Interesting hike to the foot of the Matterhorn. Down to Staffel, very closed to the Z’Muttglacier (7477’). then you will cross high alpine pastures (but you wan’t see a cow..) and forests before Arriving in Furi (6,412’). Cable car Ride down to Zermatt village. You will have time to stroll around in the worldfamous Matterdorf. (elevation 170’, 2434’ loss, 5,7 miles, 3.30. hiking hours). B. at Hotel Butterfly
Day 8: Fly home or continue your tour accross the Alps or Europe.
Take train down to Visp – Lausanne – Geneva Airport (earliest possible Arrival time is around 11.00 a.m.) You could also take the train down to Visp – Brig – Lötschbergtunnel – Kandersteg – Berne – Zurich Airport. And connect with homeward-bound fligths. B. at Hotel Butterfl
