Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Guatemala City, transfer to Antigua. Welcomedrink and orientation about the travelroute.
Days 2 - 3: The perfectly shaped volcano's reflecting themselves in the deepblue waters of the Lago di Atitlan, one of the worlds most beautiful lakes. For two nights we stay in Panajachel with possibilities for a boat ride to other villages, hikes or shopping for souvenirs. Also, enjoy the nightlife in the many restaurants, bars and small discos of the town.
Day 4: We will visit the famous, colorful indianmarket in Chichicastenango. This town has an altitude of 6000 ft., (1800 meter) the nights will be cold.
Days 5 - 6: Back in the magnificent colonial town of Antigua, we will spend two night. Dozens of churches, museums and markets are all within walking distance.
Day 7: Short visit to Guatemala City, the capitol of Guatemala. The road leads down to the fertile, humid and hot valley of the Motagua river. We stop for the night in RioDulce.
Day 8: Rio Dulce highlights the perfectly rebuilt spanish Fort San Felipe.
Day 9: Over a bumpy gravelroad we reach Tikal, the biggest mayan city, surrounded by tropical forest. We spend the night in tents close to the ruins. To see the sunrise from atop a pyramid is truly an experience! In the afternoon is a chance for a swim in Lake Peten.
Days 10 - 11: Back the same road on half way lays Poptun. On a finca close by we will camp for two night. Possibilities for hiking, horsebackriding or exploring a cave with a underground river.
Day 12: Our last day in Guatemala. We will have a short stop at Quirigua. Situated in the middle of a banana plantation. Theold mayan center famous for it's stelae. A gravel road brings us to a typical central american border with Honduras Short after the border we reach Copan.
Day 13: Copan, the most artistically Maya-ruins. The colonial town waits to be discovered too.
Day 14: A four hour drive via San Pedro Sula brings us to Omoa on the Caribbean coast, with the biggest fort in central-America and home of the Yax Pac Tour owner.
Day 15: From Puerto Cortes an old train runs to Tela, from where we go further by road to Triunfo de la Cruz, the first Spanish settlement founded by Columbus. Today a typical Garifuna town, whose descendants are of formerly black slaves from Africa. We continue to La Ceiba.
Day 16: Flight to the Caribbean island Roatan. Excellent dive-and watersport possibilities.
Days 17 - 18 - 19: Roatan.
Day 20: Flight back to Ceiba on the main land, followed by a drive to San Pedro Sula.
Day 21: End of the tour, short drive to the airport, where your home journey starts.
