In the Northwest of Romania, aside the cities, there are some of the most unaltered regions. So, for instance, the endless forests but also the villages with high wooden churches, which remind of Scandinavia.

Your Itinerary
1st Day: Bucharest - Sibiu
Arrival on Bucharest’s Otopeni Airport. Pick-up by our guide and driver and transfer to Sibiu.
Overnight accommodation: Hotel Continental***, Sibiu
2nd Day: Sibiu - Baia Mare
Short sightseeing tour through the centre of Sibiu, with the Bruckenthal museum and the Lutheran Church. Drive to Sebes and Alba Iulia, one of the most important cities for Romanians, then to Cluj, Transylvania’s Capital City. Sightseeing tour in Cluj. Further to Baia Mare. Overnight accommodation: Hotel Carpati****, Baia Mare.
3rd Day: Surdesti and the Monastery Rohia
After the breakfast, time enough, to explore the to discover the region of Maramures with its big forests. We visit the well preserved wooden churches of Plopis and Surdesti, and find out about the Greek-Catholics, Christians, who were not allowed to practice during the communist time. In the villages we see the nicely carved gates and timber buildings. A short trip brings us to the monastery to Rohia, where a well-known Dissident had found refuge during communist time.
4th Day: The merry cemetery and Sighet
A particularity of the area is the Merry Cemetery of Sapanta, at the border to the Ukraine. In the famous prison of Sighet, there were imprisoned by the communist regime the most important Romanian politicians of the time between the two World Wars. Overnight accommodation: a small, but nice hotel in Sighet.
5th Day: Iza valley
Visits an unbelievably rich private art collection in Sighet. Drive through the Iza valley, with the visit of the wooden churches at Rozavlea and Ieud, the most beautiful and the oldest wooden church of the Maramures. Trekking possibility between Ieud and Botiza. Overnight accommodation: Little, but nice hotel in Viseu.
6th Day: Viseu - Targu Mures
Heading south, we reach the area inhabited by the szekely, a branch of the Magyars and one of the minorities of Romania. In Targu Mures we shall visit the Teleki Library and the Ethnographic Museum. We have the possibility to talk, to a Jew of the Auschwitz survived. Overnight accommodation: Hotel Continental***, Targu Mures.
7th Day: Targu Mures - Bucharest
Through Sighisoara, the only inhabited medieval citadel in Romania, and Brasov, where we will visit the old centre, to Bucharest. Overnight accommodation: Hotel Opera***, Bucharest.
8th Day: End of the tour
Time to say good-bye, as our journey draws to an end. Transfer to the International Airport of Bucharest.
