In numerous invasions, many populations mixed their blood and culinary customs with ours so that Sicilian families developed dishes to please Greek, Arab, Norman, French and Spanish palates. It is for its history and culture that Sicily owns a cuisine that bridges the East and the West. Together with "La Cucina del Sole" we would like to offer, both to beginners and accomplished cooks, courses in Sicilian cuisine, in one of the most enchanting islands where the value of culinary tradition is still alive: a tradition of bounty and simplicity with strong and contrasting flavors and where cooking and meals are occasions to share pleasant and important moments with friends. Lessons are held in a typical Sicilian house, on the slopes of Etna, and based on the most famous Sicilian recipes, paying particular attention to pasta, fish and vegetable dishes. Each lesson may include a complete menu, with visitors intervention to knead pasta, use ingredients, control sauce consistency and so on. A lesson will last 3 hours with final tasting of the dishes prepared. During the lesson other recipes are explained, suggestions, and historical references are given, anecdotes are told.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Catania - Transfer to the hotel/inn by private car/driver. Overnight.
Day 2: The Etna Wine route - Morning at leisure. What to do? Visit Mt. Etna and one of the winery, located in one of the villages at its slopes, famous for being the ground of the Etna doc wines. We have the evening class at La Cucina del Sole, with menu according to your taste or interests. We have dinner with Eleonor.
Day 3: Fera 'o Luni - Escorted visit to Catania typical markets: The coloured "Fera 'o luni" market, located in the core of the town, where everything can be found from vegetables to trendy clothes, and the smelly fish market, not so far from the previous one and close to the Cathedral and the Town Hall. We have the evening class at La Cucina del Sole with menu according to your taste or interests. We have dinner with Eleonora.
Day 4: Town of Vases - Day at leisure. What to do? Late, in the morning we will go shopping at Caltagirone, the Arab town of vases, famous all over the world for its refined pottery art. Try to express your skills in a decoration demo in a typical artisan's workshop.
Day 5: Organic Farm - Morning at leisure. A suggestion? We will visit an organic farm cultivating oranges, lemons, tangerines, and producing marmalades and jams, liqueurs and olive oil. We will have Taormina at Lunch Time. We will have a special evening class at La Cucina del Sole with menu according to your tastes and interests. In the evening we will have a farewell dinner.
Day 6: Farewell - Morning at leisure. In the afternoon go to the Catania airport and departure.
