Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi
Arrive Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, is the largest city in East Africa. It began as a depot of the East African Railroad in 1899, and in little over 90 years has
become one of the major cities in modern Africa, and a headquarters of the United Nations. A vibrant and rapidly expanding city, Nairobi is a mosaic of many races and cultures. Interesting sightseeing
opportunities in Nairobi include the AFEW Giraffe Center, the Karen Blixen Museum, the National Museum and many arts and craft studios and galleries. Overnight at the Holiday Inn - the a lovely hotel set on lush grounds on the outskirts of Nairobi. Overnight at the House of Waine
Days 2 - 3: Lake Natron
Depart after breakfast and catch a private charter from Wilson airport to Lake Natron on the southern floor of the Great Rift Valley. Owing to its surrounding salt flats, this lake is inaccessible to predators and its for this reason that thousands of flamingo descend on the lake each year to nest on elevated mud mounds at the lake’s edge safe from any potential predators. Freshwater springs at the Lake’s shore attract a host of other birds. Shompole is a luxury lodge with 6 spacious villas located on the edge of the Great Rift Valley, with spectacular views.
The lodge itself is of a stunning and unique design, which artfully combines the textures & materials harvested from the local group ranch, with the relaxing properties of flowing water and cool
pools in each room. The rooms are designed with a unique combination of undulating white walls and the multiple textures of natural quartz rock, bullrush thatch and smooth figwood. The camp owes its existence to the Maasai people of Shompole Group Ranch who are
our partners in the project and who lend their enthusiasm and culture to this new form of eco-tourism. Although the camp itself makes a wonderfully relaxing variation in the normally hectic safari
itinerary, providing guests with an opportunity to relax; the area around offers a range of activities including walking, canoeing,
mountain biking, day & night game drives, bush dinners and breakfasts; mornings out at the flamingo inhabited Lake Natron and bird-watching. Wild-life seen in the area includes lion, leopard, aardwolf, striped hyena, eland, giraffe, bat-eared fox and many more. Overnight at Shompole Lodge
Days 4 - 5: Lewa Wildlife Conservancy
Catch a flight back to Nairobi and connect to a scheduled bush flight to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. Located near the foothills of Mt. Kenya, Lewa Downs is a 45,000-acre cattle ranch that has
been home to the Craig family for three generations. Lewa Downs is part of the area of Kenya where traces of some of the earliest humans have been found, and guests are free to search for their carved stones, hand-worked tools, and other artifacts. Only 17 miles from the equator, the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is justly famous both for its big game and for its great scenic beauty. Game walks
with experienced guides who point out the telling details of the bush, bringing the tracks and wild signs of Africa to life. Relax in a blind and let the wildlife come to you. You can also explore the
ranch on horseback or do the now traditional game drives in an open safari vehicle. Game includes the endangered Grevy zebra, black and
white rhinos among other animals and the incredible scenery of this conservancy makes this a unforgettable safari destination. Sleeping 16 people housed in 8 beautifully decorated cottages, featuring fireplaces and verandas, Wilderness Trails is a wonderful and relaxing experience. It is a wilderness immersion combined with surprising extravagance, elegance, and privacy. The fireplace in every cottage will be lit for you each evening as the temperature drops, to add warmth and homey comfort. Overnight at Wilderness
Trails.
Day 6 - 7: Samburu Game Reserve
After breakfast, catch a flight to the hot and arid fringes of the Northern Frontier to Samburu Game Reserve, an oasis in the vast open and dry district. The Samburu Reserve lies 200 miles north of Nairobi and the The Reserve is within the lands of the colorful Samburu people, close relatives of the Maasai, and is home to a number of wildlife species rarely found elsewhere in Kenya. These animals include: Grevy's zebra, the reticulated giraffe, and the Beisa oryx, all found only north of the equator. The long-necked gerenuk is a graceful antelope that spends much of its time in a bipedal stance seeking relaxation in the sparse scrub that grows in
this harsh terrain. This dramatic landscape is blanketed by the hot equatorial sun for most of the year. Relief comes from the cool waters of the Ewaso Nyiro River which rises to the west on the foothills of the Aberdares and which vanishes beyond Samburu in the
soggy expanse known as the Lorian swamp. Elephant Watch Camp is an exotic Camp is perched on the sand banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, beneath big Kigelia trees and Acacia Elatiors. It is home to some of the largest bulls in Samburu who can often be spotted resting under an acacia tree or picking pods beside the tents. The trees are filled with a multitude of birds and monkeys. At dawn a gentle chorus echoes overhead announcing the new day in the wild. Overnight at Elephant Watch Camp.
Days 8 - 10: Maasai Mara Game Reserve
Early breakfast and catch your flight to the Maasai Mara. The Maasai Mara is for many reasons the most spectacular game reserve in Kenya — a vast expanse of undulating grass and woodlands where it is possible to see over a dozen different species of game at one time, including all the Big 5! The Maasai Mara Game Reserve is in the southwest corner of Kenya and is an extension of the famous Serengeti plains of Tanzania. The rains are reliable and the new grass supports an annual migration of millions of wildebeest and their predators from the drier plains further south. Il Moran, whose name means ‘ young warrior’ is an exclusive camp that has recreated luxury by adding that extra bit of luxury and atmosphere to the original hunting camps. Hidden under ancient trees, deep in the forest, are just ten tents. They line the winding banks of the Mara River. Game drives and game walks are included. Each spacious tent has a very private location and is furnished to a superior standard.
Stunning beds are handmade from speciallyselected wood taken from ancient olive trees. Large en-suite bathrooms have flush toilets, a lovely big shower with -hot water, and a Victorian bath where
you can soap the day's dust away. Every tent has an extended verandah. They're designed so you can take dinner in private at your tent if you wish. Or just relax and enjoy the sights and sounds. Birds and butterflies abound, elephants wander through the camp, at night leopards call nearby. Whilst at Il Moran, you can indulge in the hot air balloon ride with a celebratory champagne breakfast prepared on the balloon’s burners or take a day trip to Mfangano Island at Lake Victoria , where the size and colour of fish and sunset challenge your imagination. During the day meals are served under the giant trees. Deep in the bush, the cordon-bleu dinners by candlelight are a truly unforgettable experience. Nowhere else can you get so far from civilization, yet stay in such style. Overnight at Il Moran
