Kenya, and finishing off on the Indian Ocean, the Surf ‘n’ Turf safari includes walking safaris and night game drives, and many other exciting "excursions”. At Wilderness Trails you will have the opportunity to go on walking safaris at the Lewa Downs Conservancy, and to go on the traditional game drives in an open safari vehicle. You will visit a Maasai Enkang and walk along the banks of the swamp, home to hippos and a frequent stopover for the plains game just the doorstep of your tent whilst at Little Governors Camp in the Maasai Mara. You will also have the option to take a hot air balloon over the Maasai Mara plains. Accommodations include the luxurious Wilderness Trails, Little Governors Tented Camp, and Turtle Bay Beach Resort.
Tour Itinerary
Days 1 - 3: Lewa Wildlife Conservancy
When you arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be met by an Africa Expeditions staff and transferred to Wilson Airport for your scheduled flight to Lewa Conservancy. Located near the foothills of Mt. Kenya, Lewa Downs is a 45,000-acre cattle ranch that has been home to the Craig family for three generations. Lewa Downs is part of the area of Kenya where traces of some of the earliest humans have been found, and guests are free to search for their carved stones, hand-worked tools, and other artifacts.
Only 17 miles from the equator, the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is justly famous both for its big game and for its great scenic beauty. Game walks with experienced guides who point out the telling details
of the bush, bringing the tracks and wild signs of Africa to life. Relax in a blind and let the wildlife come to you. You can also explore the ranch on horseback or do the now traditional game drives in an open safari vehicle. Game includes the endangered Grevy zebra, black and white rhinos among other animals and the incredible scenery of this conservancy makes this a unforgettable safari destination. Sleeping 16 people housed in 8 beautifully decorated cottages, featuring fireplaces and verandas, Wilderness Trails is a wonderful and relaxing experience. Days 5 - 8: Maasai Mara Game Reserve
Today you will take your flight from Lewa to the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. The Maasai Mara is for many reasons the most spectacular game reserve in Kenya - a vast expanse of undulating grass and
woodlands where it is possible to see almost a dozen different species of game at one time. Situated in the southwest corner of Kenya, the Maasai Mara is an extension of the famous Serengeti plains of Tanzania, a small part of the ecosystem covering some
56,000 sq. km between the Rift Valley and Lake Victoria. Here you will likely see thousands of zebra and wildebeest as they move northward into the fresh grazing areas in the Maasai Mara, sometimes mixed with herds of Topi, Grant's and Thompson's gazelle, eland, hartebeest, and the occasional families of warthogs and waterbuck. The herds of elephant and giraffe are easy to see on these rolling plains, and the predators are more numerous here than anywhere else in Kenya. The bird life is plentiful, and wonderful. Lilac-breasted rollers whirling after insects flash their incredible colors before they land on a nearby branch. The amazing secretary bird trudges the plains in search of a snake or a lizard to slake its appetite. And one doesn't think of Africa without remembering the ever-present vultures circling overhead in search of some leftovers, or the
unfortunate wildebeest trampled at a river crossing. Over 450 species - from the tall ostrich to the tiny fire finch - the birds of the Mara are incredible. Whilst in the Maasai Mara, you can enjoy the thrills of an early morning hot-air balloon safari drifting
over the awakening plains offers an unusual and unforgettable experience. On landing, the accompanying ground crew offer a celebratory glass of champagne, and a wonderful breakfast is cooked on the balloon burners and served in the bush in true safari style. Accommodation is booked at Little Governors Camp, a member of the Governors Camps made famous by the BBC documentary ‘Big Cat Diary’. This camp is intimate in character with just 17 tents tucked around a large watering-hole that teems with animal and bird life. Day 9: Malindi
A scheduled flight takes you from the Maasai Mara to Malindi, where you are met and transferred to Turtle Bay Beach Resort in Watamu. The Resort is based on tropical landscaped gardens with an atmosphere that will turn your holiday into a treat of a lifetime. Located 120 km approximately North of Mombasa, Watamu is a small village located on the coast of Kenya, approximately 120 km north of Mombasa and 25 km south of Malindi. The area has developed an international reputation for its white-sand and reef-protected beaches that line the Watamu National Marine Park. Established in 1968, the Watamu Marine Park is the oldest in Kenya and has developed into one of the best snorkeling and dive spots of the world. The Marine Park boasts over 600 species of fish in just 10
square kilometers, although the reserve area itself spreads out over more than 32 sq km in total. In addition to the Marine Park itself, Watamu is within 10 km of two other special natural reserves, Mida Creek and Arabuko-Sokoke Forest and one fascinating site of archaeological interest, the Gedi Ruins. The Mida Creek reserve is formed of extensive mangrove forests, warm shallow waters and large areas of mud flats at low tide. This area hosts not only many
local birds, such as Greater Flamingo, Yellow-billed Stork, Great White Egret and Malachite Kingfisher, but is also the winter home of many migrants such as the Crab Plover, Curlew Sandpiper, Whimbrel and Sanderling. Overnight at Turtle Bay Beach Resort.
Days 10 - 12: Malindi
Optional visits to the Arabuko-Sokoke Forest and Gedi Ruins are available on request. The Arabuko-Sokoke Forest, situated only seven kilometers inland from Watamu, is the largest remaining area (420 sq. km.) of indigenous coastal forest in East Africa. The forest contains six species of globally threatened birds, including the endemic Clarke's Weaver, and the Sokoke Scops-Owl. Rare mammals are also present, including the Golden-rumped Elephant Shrew, the Bushy-tailed Mongoose and Ader's Duiker. Rarely seen but also found in the forest are elephant, buffalo, leopard and hyena. Over 260 species are found here, and there is a butterfly farm located at the edge of the forest where one can be guided through the process of exporting butterfly pupas. The Gedi Ruins was one of the ancient Arab towns that dotted the East African Coast. It dates from
the late 13th or early 14th Century and was finally abandoned in the early 17th Century. Excavated since 1927, many areas have been revealed, including the Great Mosque, the Palace, several residential houses and pillar tombs. Surrounded by tall shady trees, a walk through the ruins is an exciting leap into the past. Overnight at Turtle Bay Beach Resort.
Day 13: Nairobi
Today you take a scheduled flight from Malindi to Nairobi where day Rooms have been organized for you at Macushla House. Relax and freshen up before your international flight home. You will enjoy a
farewell dinner at the famous Carnivore Restaurant and then a short drive to Jomo Kenyatta International. Airport for your departure flight.

Booking and Cancellation:
- A deposit of 25% of the total cost of your safari is required to confirm your arrangements and reserve our equipment and personnel for your safari.
- The balance is payable 60 days prior to your arrival.
- In the event of cancellation prior to 60 days in advance of the safari, your deposit is refundable in full less a handling fee of $500 per person.
- In the event of cancellation within 60 days of the safari commencement, payment will be refunded less the 25% deposit
- If cancellations are received less than 40 days in advance, the full cost of the safari is non-refundable.
