The Stone town is located about 110 km north of Lijiang. It comprises of more than one hundred families on the top of a gigantic rock. This town was built in the late 13th century (Yuan Dynasty). In the Naxi tongue, it is called "La Bai Lu Pan Wu". La Bai was the first local Naxi leader, who lives here. Lu Pan Wu means white stone village. This town has such a long history due to it's unique geographic location. Below this stone town and towards the eastern side, lies the Golden Sand River. The other three sides are steep cliffs. The top of the cliff becomes a guarding post for the town.In this town, you may feel amazed at the sight of many household equipments which were make of stone. In most of the houses, their household items e.g. table, bed, water tank, fire stove are all carved out of big stones. You may wonder where do they do their farming of crops. They do their planting just below this uniquely perched village.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Drive from Lijiang to Baoshan(L/D, about 4.5 hours)
After breakfast, we will drive to Baoshan Stone Town, a small town with one hundred families on the top of a gigantic rock. This town was built in the late 13th century (Yuan Dynasty).Below this stone town and towards the eastern side, lies the Jinshajiang River. The other three sides are steep cliffs. The top of the cliff becomes a guarding post for the town. In this town, you may feel amazed at the sight of many household equipments which were make of stone. In most of the houses, their household items e.g. table, bed, water tank, fire stove are all carved out of big stones. After breakfast, explore the old stone town on foot. Overnight in Mu.s Guest house or the similar(two-bed, no private washroom).
Day 2: Trek to Liucheng (B/D, about 7 hours hiking)
This morning we could have one hour wondering around the Old Stone town and the nearby area. Mu’s Guest house is well located to overlook the Yangtze River valley and the upper part of the village. Then we will trek from Baoshan Stone Town to Liucheng village for about 7 hours, The first part of the hiking is hard as we will ascent from 1788m to 2499m(Taizhiguan Pass), After descend the peak, the beautiful Crown Gorge containing the Yangtze River now looks much thinner and quieter. It's exciting to walk through two tunnels with bending down. Instead of climbing over two stiff rock mountains, the tunnels were manually dug long years before. We walk into and move one step that brings us more close to the light. We find the blue sky much lovely after coming out from the tunnels, and then we will pass the through tranquil forest to Liucheng. Overnight Ho's house (public shower and toilet).
Day 3: Trek to Labo Village (B/D, about 7 hours hiking)
Today we trek for approximately seven hours and half to Labo, a ethnical Moso and Nakhi village. The Yangtze River lies at the foot of mountains. The village is scattered along the route. We will meet friendly and smiling villagers. Today we Crossing wooden irrigation canals and terraced fields, the last Nakhi village in our trek. There we crossed the Yangtze River by boat again, and continue to walk toward Labo village, a nice Moso village. Overnight Local Guesthouse (public shower and toilet).
Day 4: Trek to Zhuangzi Village (B/D, about 7 hours hiking)
Today we trek for approximately seven hours to Zhuangzi via Fengke(1850m) and Gewa(2650m), passing through beautiful Moso village, sometimes we have to stop for a short time while local farmers drive their cattle across the road. In the forest full of pine and oak trees, sometimes we heard the sounds of horse bell and horseman's before they come in sight. We will reach the Moso village-Zhuangzi. Overnight Xiong’s house (public shower and toilet) and all meals. There is some repetition and unclear succession of places in the part I marked in green. Would you please review that?
Day 5: Trek to Lugu Lake (B/D)
Leaving Zhuangzi behind us, we continue to trek for approximately five to six hours to Yongning. We will first hike up over Zhangzi Pass(3,500m) and down the mountain walk through the tranquil scenery and memorable views to Yongning where our bus is waiting. Drive for about one hour to Lugu Lake. Overnight in the hostel on Lige Peninsula in Lugu Lake.
Day 6: Lugu Lake Drive to LIjiang (B/L)
After breakfast, we will leave Lugu Lake and drive back to Lijiang. It is a long drive for about 6.5 hours, to avoid long time on the van, we will have some stop on the way:
We will first stop at Ninglang County (about 2 hours drive from Lugu Lake) for a visit of local bazzar. From Ninglang to Lijiang, there is some small villages on the way, we could stop from time to time to have a short visit of some of the villages. And there is a part of the road have a very beautiful view of the Yulong Snow mountain from the other side where the normal tourists will never see at all.
At arrive of Lijiang, free time to wondering around the old town. Stay in a Guest house in Lijiang old town. The end of the tour
