Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Lake Baringo
Depart Nairobi in the morning. stopping enroute to view the spectacular Great Rift Valley. Lunch enroute then camp at Lake Baringo, a world famous bird sanctuary, late in the afternoon. Boat trip to see the hippos and crocodiles.
Day 2: Lake Nakuru
A 30km drive south to the spectacular Lake Bogoria with the [very] hot springs. Don’t fall in. Flamingos live here and you can explore on foot. Lunch and then proceed to Lake Nakuru national park famous for its bird life for a game drive. Overnight in your campsite.
Lake Nakuru National Park is a shallow and alkaline lake on the floor of the Great Rift Valley, has earned it's fame as the home of one of the greatest bird spectacles in the world - the concentration of often more than a million pink flamingo which seasonally feed on the abundant algae which thrives in the shallow warm waters. Other wading birds abound and many species of game can be found in the surrounding acacia savannah and forests. Lake Nakuru was designated as Kenya's first rhino santuary. Please enquire with us on options for accommodation at Lake Naivasha.
Day 3: Maasai Mara
We head south to Narok, camping in our permanent campsite on the Talek River, which is at the edge of the park by afternoon. Here we have stand-up tents with beds for use, if not occupied, otherwise we pitch tent. Hot showers are available in the camp and meals are served in the dinning mess or in the open.
The Masai Mara is considered by many to be one of Kenya's finest game reserves. The rolling grasslands offer ideal game viewing and photographic opportunities and the grassy plains are broken by rocky outcrops which are favourite midday resting places for lion, for which the Mara is famous. Some of the other animals which can be seen in and around this 700 square mile conservation area include elephant, black rhino, buffalo, leopard, cheetah, wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle. Hippo and crocodile abound in the muddy brown waters of the rivers which traverse this Reserve. One of the Mara's main attractions each year is the astonishing spectacle of the annual migration of up to two million wildebeest, thousands of zebra and an escort of carnivores from the Serengeti plains, following the rains and succulent new grass. A costly trek as many of the lame, laggard and sick will fall prey to the ravening pack of predators and many more will die in the swirling flood waters trying to cross the Mara River. Once the rains have ended and the grass begins to wither the wildebeest turn south and head back to the Serengeti and beyond.
Days 4 & 5: Maasai Mara
From the base camp, we experience the Mara Magic; packed with elephant, zebra, rhino, lion and all kinds of game throughout the year, with the spectacular wildebeest migration from Serengeti mainly in July and August.
Day 6: Nairobi
We break camp and drive to Narok where Maasai souvenirs can be bought, then back to Nairobi by late afternoon.
