The Sangihe -Talaud Archipelago lies to the north of Manado and is dominated by the 1830m Karangetang volcano.
This chain of around 40 steep and lush volcanic islands connects Indonesia with the Philippines.
It is regarded as one of the most scenic regions of all of Indonesia. Here deep oceanic trenches rise to form towering volcanic islands. Several of these are still active, such as spectacular Siau, a rainforest island which rises to over 1400m above sea level.
The abundant marine life and magical reefs fringing these islands are only accessible by a live-aboard boat and are truly impressive, even to the most jaded traveler. All along the Sangihe-Talaud Island the reefs are described by international divers and snorkellers as 'remote, pristine and world class'.
These coral reef fringed island are among the most pristine in Indonesia, and considered by experts as the pinnacle of marine bio-diversity worldwide.
The waters surrounding the islands are frequented by numerous species of cetaceans such as sperm whales, pilot whales, melon-headed whales and numerous species of dolphins are sighted traveling in enormous pods.
In addition, pods of rare tropical killer whales or orcas are sighted here occasionally.
One of the most amazing geological features of this archipelago is the Mahangetang active underwater volcano near Siau.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1:
Board M/V Sea Dancer, stow all equipment and have a briefing for the trip. Depart Manado late afternoon for overnight cruise to Makalehi Island.
Day 2:
Arrive at Makalehi Island early morning for 4 dives during the day. Late afternoon cruise to Siau Island for a night dive and stay overnight at Siau.
Day 3:
Very early morning cruise to Mahangetang underwater volcano for all day diving and night dive. After dinner cruise to Siau Island.
Day 4:
All day diving and night dive at Siau Island. Stay overnight at Siau.
Day 5:
All day diving at Siau. Late afternoon soothing bath, or swim at Siau beach hot springs; followed by beach BBQ. Night dive is available followed by light evening meal.
Day 6:
Very early morning cruise to Ruang Island for 2 morning dives. Cruise to Biaro Island while having lunch. Arrive at Biaro for 2 afternoon dives and night dive (dive computer/dive tables allowing). Late night cruise to Manado for disembarking M/V Sea Dancer early morning.
