Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: We pick you up at the Manaus International Airport in the early morning and take you to a very comfortable hotel for several hours.
Day 2: At noon you have lunch and then take an air-conditioned van to see sites in the city. You can choose to visit approximately two of the following: INPA (scientific research center and botanical gardens), the Military Zoo, the open market, the Teatro Amazonas, the Japanese Natural History Museum, or the Rio Negro Docks. You may also wish to have some free time to stroll around downtown or in the markets for purchases.
Day 3: At our 7pm Welcome Dinner, you will dine on excellent regional cuisine at one of Manausı finer restaurants. From there you will head to our boat for an overnight cruise up the Rio Negro through the Anavilhanas Islands, one of the worldıs largest riverine archipelagos. As we depart, you will get a tour of the boat and time to settle in. We then invite you to join us for drinks and an introductory presentation on the Amazon and our adventure. This will include health and safety concerns. Following a good nightıs rest, you will join us on a wildlife outing in a motorboat.
Day 4: The next couple of days will be spent boating, hiking, and swimming in this tropical paradise. We will look at and discuss birds, plants, mammals, insects, reptiles, amphibians, hydrology, and of course local cultures to the extent that it´s possible and your interested. We will have several books pertaining to Amazonia available with us throughout our journey. Depending on the time of the year you may have white sand beaches or flooded forests to enhance your experience. Your naturalist will be available for early morning and late afternoon outings and often for discussions. One evening boat outing to see the nightlife will also be included.
Day 5: On day three you cross from the Rio Negro to the Rio Amazonas. Its muddy waters result in a different habitat type and other things to see and experience. You may visit with farmers and fishermen, buzz up a small stream to see an enormous kapok tree, try your hand at fishing, or go on a wildlife outing. Early on day five we will cross the Meeting of the Waters, where the worldıs second largest tributary (Rio Negro with coffee-colored water) pours into the worldıs largest river, the Amazon. The color contrast of the two flowing side by side is amazing. From there we head to Manaus for an air-conditioned ride to President Figuereido to hike in the forests and swim in the beautiful streams of the uplands. We spend the night in comfortable air-conditioned quarters.
Day 6: On the sixth day we visit Balbina Reservoir and some waterfalls. On day seven we head back to Manaus to see more sights and check into a very comfortable hotel to be well rested before flying out. On our last night we head to another excellent restaurant for our Farewell Dinner. The following morning you are taken to Manaus International Airport for your flight home. We thank you, wish you all the best, and bid you farewell.
