We utilize chairlifts, snowcats, hiking (bootpacking), skinning with touring gear and sweat to accomplish these goals. Participants should be physically fit and possess a strong sense of adventure. The basic premise of this trip is to ski powder when it is snowing and storming off the lifts, hit the hill first day it is sunny until there is no more powder, and then start touring. Obviously if it has not snowed in a while we will begin touring pretty early after doing a warmup run. Prior touring experience is advantageous but certainly not required. Your host for the Backcountry Andean Experience is a professional avalanche worker, educator, guide and life-long backcountry skier in Colorado and South America.

You must arrive in Santiago, Chile at the latest before 11AM at the airport (SCL) the day the trip starts and we recommend not departing Santiago (SCL) or Mendoza (MDZ) before the day after the trip finishes. If you need to stay at a hotel before or after the trip (we highly recommend trying to get to Santiago the night before) we recommend the Hotel Rugendas, or Hotel Presidente. We recommend Rugendas over Presidente.
