The park just 514 sq. kms area is the smallest of Ethiopia’s national parks. 78 sq. km of the park is water. The rather temperate climate 11o and 26oC makes the park area much more pleasant than the Abiata and Shalla Parks. Lake Abaya and Lake Chamo border the park area. The Rift Valley wildlife is plentiful. The best way to get there is to travel to the nearby town of Arba Minch, 510 kms south of Addis. Lake Chamo is famed for its large crocodile and hippo population. Accommodation is readily available at Arba Minch Bekele Molla Hotel.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Drive eastwest of Addis Ababa passing through Debre Zeit, continue driving along the main road of the Great Rift Valley which leads you to the south along the shores of many of the lakes. You will reach Lake Langano which is a sand beach that attracts many visitors, a popular spot for holiday makers. After having a short visit, drive adjacent to Langano, where you can find the two Rift Valley Crater Lakes. These are Abiyata and Shala. Lake Abiyata is a shelter and a breeding place for myriad of birds. Then drive to Lake Shala; it is very beautiful. On the shore of the lake, observe the exposing of various hot springs and species of birds. Then, proceed to Arba Minch via Sodo. Your overnight stay will be at Bekele Molla Hotel at Arba Minch.
Day 2: After breakfast, drive to Netch Sar National Park passing through Arba Minch Forest and crossing the bridge of Kulfo River (people call it the bridge of God), you will reach Netch Sar. Here you can find a great number of birds and wild animals species.Visit the lakes, Tchamo and Abaya; these lakes are along the border of the park. Small or large motor boats could be hired from Tchamo to visit any spot of the lakes. You will observe as great number of hippos and crocodiles in the lakes. Continue visiting Lake Abaya where you can find a modern Crocodile Farm. Later in the afternoon drive back to Arba Minch and spend a night at Bekele Molla Hotel.
Day 3: After breakfast, drive to Chencha the beautiful land of the Dorzes. The road to Chencha starts from north of Arba Minch, then to the west which leads to the mountainous region. The highland plateau is covered with false banana plantations and bamboo's. You will also observe the trees with beehives clustered on them: then, drive back to Arba Minch for lunch at Bekele Molla. After lunch, visit Arba Minch springs, where you can find more than forty in number and you roam about and see the surrounding dense forest that inhabits almost all big and small game animals, like lions, leopards and other wild beasts. Stay overnight at Bekele Molla Hotel to help you start fresh next morning.
Day 4: After breakfast, drive to Wondo Genet where you can observe the beautiful scenery of the Rift Valley from the terrace of the hotel, and walk up to the nearest thick forest where you can shoot photographs of species of birds like the Yellow-fronted parrot.After lunch, drive to Lake Langano where you would spend the night.
Day 5: From early morning till lunch time, you will spend the hours stalking and hiking along the stretched sand beach or swim if you so wish. After lunch, drive back to Addis Ababa.
