Your Itinerary

Day 1, Thursday: Arrival at Rio. Check into Hotel Portinari or Orla. Relax and then evening meal at Marius Restaurant.

Day 2, Friday: After breakfast, leave at 10am with Rico our guide. Juice Bar Polis Sucos. Academia da Cachaça. Pictures and traditional Brazilian lunch. Jardim Botânico Gardens. Rio Fort (Forte de Copacabana).
Back to Hotel for evening meal.

Day 3, Saturday: With Rico. Arcos de Lapa, San Sebastian Cathedral, outside and interior. Church of Candelária. Monastery De Sao Bento Colombo Confeitaria. Pictures, Coffee and Drinks (Candies are their specialty). Lapa. Street Market and shops. Santa Teresa. Late lunch at Restaurant Aprazivel and even take photos of their delicious food! Gloria Church Exterior (Closed inside) and maybe Gloria Hotel
interior.
Back to hotel. Evening meal at 8:30 PM.

Day 4, Sunday: With Rico. Corcovado (Christ statue) in the morning
Mirante Dona Marta. (Lunch). Late middle afternoon: Sugar Loaf for setting sun and city lights at dusk.
Evening meal at Hotel.

Day 5, Monday: Travel day. Rio to Belo Horizonte by plane. Departure time depends on which airline is used. Check in at Hotel Othon. Palace and meet our local guide Laura. Meals at hotel – top roof restaurant – Everything is closed Mondays. Possible visit to the Cultural Centre or the Central Market.

Day 6, Tuesday: Visit Cave Gruta Rei do Mato in the morning. Lunch in the restaurant close to Gruta de Maquiné. Visit Cave Gruta de Maquiné in the afternoon.
Dinner in Belo Horizonte: Restaurant Emporium.

Day 7, Wednesday: After breakfast, depart to Ouro Preto by Taxi (UNESCO Heritage site). Check in at Grand Hotel or Luxor Ouro Preto.
Drinks/Lunch and explore the village. Night shots in evening
before eating.

Day 8, Thursday: Full day to explore and a visit the amazing railway station! In the afternoon, Mina da Passagem on the way to Mariana
Dinner in Ouro Preto.

Day 9, Friday: Check out after breakfast and return by Taxi’s to Belo Horizonte with lunch in Faz de Conta Restaurant, that is on the way to Belo Horizonte. Now we have to fly to Salvador with E-tkts, GOL or TAM airlines. Arrive at Salvador Airport and transfer with our local guide Carlos to Pousada Noa Noa for 4 nights.
Dinner at the hotel.

Day 10, Saturday: Morning free (Beach time? Or photos?). Afternoon in Pelourinho (UNESCO heritage site).
Dinner at the typical restaurant close to Pelourinho.

Day 11, Sunday: Morning free (beach time). Afternoon in Cidade Baixa, Mercado Modelo.
Dinner at the restaurant inside Mercado Modelo.

Day 12, Monday: Visit Praia do Forte village and Projeto Tamar with Carlos.
Final evening meal in the charming french owned Bahia Cafe restaurant in Pelourinho.

Day 13, Tuesday: Departure Day. Clients could depart from Salvador to the USA but would have to check with their Airline. AA, United etc. Alternatively return to Rio de Janeiro with me and overnight stay at Hotel Portinari or Orla.

Deposits: A deposit of US$400 is required, per person, to confirm a place in the workshop.
The balance is due by Sept 20th for the 2007 Tour and Feb 6th for the 2008 trip.

Meals: Brazilian cuisine, Italian, Mexican, Sushi and Vegetarian food is on offer to whet your appetite, and it's great to unwind and socialize at the end of very satisfying photographic days. I should budget for around $100 per day to cover lunch and evening dinner including bar tab & soft drinks. Vegetarian (meatless) meals are normally available at most locations.

Processing Films: Full E.6, C.41 and Black & White processing facilities are available but NOT reliable.

Digital: Memory cards available but I would advise you to bring
your own & download images to your Laptop/ Portable device.

Practical Information: Workshop participants will receive a memo suggesting reading recommendations and suggested film and photographic equipment. Wear sensible footwear as some walking is involved, and please also remember hats, sun oil and other similar items to ensure your personal comfort and protection from the elements.
