Itinerary:

Day 1: JHB to Sekoma Island
Nationwide flight from JHB International Airport to Livingstone followed by a vehicle transfer to Sekoma Island Camp, arriving early afternoon. The afternoon is spent preparing tackle for the following three days float trip. We will have time to fish the rapids close to the camp this afternoon.

Day 2: Sekoma to Fly Camp 1
After an early breakfast we board a motorised boat from Sekoma Island that will then take us and our luggage and one raft up river. We will cover roughly 70 to 80km mapping the exact route we will drift back, on GPS. On arrival at drop of point, we will assemble our raft, pack out supplies and begin our drift back down to Sekoma Island. With a group of 4 fishermen, pairs of anglers will alternate between fishing of drift boat and motorised boat on a daily basis. Drifting with the current and with the help of an oarsman we will fish and view game. We will camp completely wild at a suitable site on the river bank.

Day 3: Fly Camp 1 to Fly Camp 2
Rising with the sun, after a light breakfast we will once again begin our drift. The focus is on fishing, game viewing and bird watching. Not to mention absorbing the sights, and sounds of Africa as we steadily drift down stream. We will rest for picnic lunch before commencing the afternoon drift to Fly Camp 2.

Day 4: Fly Camp 2 to Fly Camp 3
Rising with the sun, after a light breakfast we will once again begin our drift. The focus is on fishing, game viewing and bird watching. Not to mention absorbing the sights, and sounds of Africa as we steadily drift down stream. We will rest for picnic lunch before commencing the afternoon drift to Fly Camp 2.

Day 5: Fly Camp 3 to Sekoma Island Lodge
Today will mark the end of or drift. After an early breakfast we will make our way back to Sekoma Island Lodge. Arriving mid morning we will have time to enjoy a warm shower and hearty meal before fishing the waters around Sekoma Island, including the famed Kasai Channel. Tonight will be spent at the luxurious Sekoma Camp.

Day 6: Sekoma Island to JHB International
After an early breakfast we will enjoy our last couple of hours on the water before making our way back to Livingstone International Airport. Departing Livingstone at 13h35 we will arrive at JHB at 15h15.

Why Winter:
From mid may to early August the waters begin receding of the Caprivi Flood plains into the Zambezi River. With them they bring vast amounts of nutrients and recently spawned bait fish. For this reason the fishing (particularly the fly fishing) is at it best, not to mention the fantastic game viewing opportunities. The temperatures during the day are perfect, slightly chilly mornings and evening and very comfortable temperatures during the day. Rain is absent at this time of the year.
