Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Sunday - Arrive at our hotel. Welcome dinner at the hotel. Tour orientation as we sip and savor.
Day 2: Monday - Drive to La Morra with spectacular views of the Barolo wine valley. Optional walk (1 hr.) in the vineyards to visit Renato Ratti wine museum, housed in the Abbey of the Annunziata where wine production began in 1162. Personalized tour with one of the Ratti family.
Lunch is at a restaurant in the town of Santa Vittoria, Italy with lovely panorama. Return to the hotel to relax. Early evening cooking lesson at Real Castello. Visit Real Castello wine cellars. Dinner of your creations at Real Castello.
Day 3: Tuesday - Visit a good Barolo winery in a picturesque hill town for a private tour and tasting. An example is Rocche Costamagna in La Morra.
A three hour demonstration lesson in the bakery kitchen, the artisan baker owner will divulge his secrets to making his famous chocolate cakes like sachertorte and hazelnut cake.
Drive down to a small, family farm nearby where we meet a man passionate about making his sheep cheeses in a totally natural way.
Dinner in a local restaurant.
Day 4: Wednesday - Visit a good Barolo winery in a picturesque hill town for a private tour and tasting. An example is Elio Altare down the hill from La Morra. We drive to a café in the hill town of Castiglione Falletto for lunch.
Visit unique medieval castle, expanded in 1340, in Serralunga.
Dinner in a local restaurant.
Day 5: Thursday - Drive to the hill town of Grinzane Cavour to visit its imposing castle.
Drive to a family's farm for a typical country lunch. With their six children, the family makes all their own cheeses and salami, raises hens, cows, and other animals and grows fruit and vegetables. Enjoy great Italian country hospitality and marvellous views!
If time permits we’ll visit a nearby factory which produces torrone.
Then we'll drive to the pretty little town of Barolo set in a valley with hills of vineyards all around and visit with the charming Brezza family in one of their winery's old cellars.
Dinner with the Brezza family.
Day 6: Friday - Visit the town of Alba.
Afternoon full menu cooking lesson with with Chef Esther, owner of a great restaurant in town of Barbaresco. Dinner on the restaurant terrace overlooking the vineyards.
Day 7: Saturday - Market day visit to the regional hub, Alba to explore Italian gastronomy shops, market stalls and medieval center. Light lunch in Alba trattoria. Mid afternoon departure.
