Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Klipkolk. Arrive in Upington from Johannesburg Cape Town you will be met at the airport by a African Insight Representative, we head north via the small village Askham, visit the nearby vulture colony and the Koppieskraalpan (salt pan) and then onto our accommodation for the evening Klipkolk Lodge. The lodge owned by the local community, experience the wonderful scenery and some of the activities that the lodge offers its guests. Overnight: Klipkolk Lodge. Meals: Dinner.

Days 2 - 3. Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Today we depart to the Kgalagadi Trans Frontier Park, one of the world’s largest conservation areas and home to herds of gemsbok, springbok, and red hartebeest amongst others. The Park is a bird watcher’s paradise with many large raptor species it’s also famous for good sightings of lion and cheetah, with its own unique distinctiveness and character it will ensure memories that endure forever. Overnight: 2 nights - Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Meals: Breakfast and Dinner.

Day 4: Molopo. A full day in the Park before we continue to the Molopo Kalahari Lodge, which is 60 km south of the park, set on the banks of the dry Molopo River. Here you will find the last remaining San (bushman) tribe in South Africa, the Khomani, we get a chance to meet them and visit the San Art community craft shop where a variety of handmade San art is available. Overnight: Molopo Lodge. Meals: Breakfast and Dinner.

Day 5: Augrabies Falls National Park. The Augrabies Falls is the sixth largest waterfall in the world, it’s at is most awesome when South Africa’s largest river, the Orange is in flood. Striking names such as Moon Rock, Ararat and Echo Corner are an apt description of this rocky region, dominated by the 18-kilometer abyss of the Orange River Gorge and rocky outcrops surrounded by scrub-dotted plains. Overnight: Augrabies Falls National Park. Meals: Breakfast and Dinner.

Day 6: Calvinia. After breakfast we drive on scenic road passing through a large quiver tree forest, south of the Orange River. This area is probably the most isolated in South Africa, with wide horizons and a stark beauty, our destination is the historical homestead and national monument the Hantam House which is the oldest original building of Calvinia. Overnight: Hantam House. Meals: Breakfast and Dinner.

Day 7: Waenhuis. After an early start we continue through the Botterkloof pass and onto the Rugged . Our first stop will be the Moravian mission station town of Wupperthal set in the Cederberg wilderness area; all the while we will observe the distinctive rock formations of this Area. Lunch will be enjoyed in the tearoom we continue back, through the valley to the Seville rock art trail. Here is a great opportunity to go on a 3km-hiking trail where we one can see at a very accessible level (not set in mountains) 9 San rock art paintings. We continue over the nearby Pakhuis Pass and onto our accommodation the Waenhuis farm. Overnight: Waenhuis Farm. Meals: Breakfast.

Days 8 - 9: Paternoster. Its time to head to the coast and onto Lamberts Bay, the heart of Crayfish country, but its main attraction is Bird Island, which attracts ornithologists from all over the world; here one can view in their natural state, gannets, cormorants, penguins and seals. We spend some time here, and have the opportunity to have lunch before we proceed to a Reserve, that consists of a wetland, and provides sanctuary for many coastal birds; lying adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean it is a great site to view whales during the season. We visit one of the bird hides and enjoy time on the uninhabited beach. We make our way down the West Coast to the little seaside town of Paternoster; with our accommodation on the beach. We enjoy our supper on the beach, in wonderful surroundings, a great day way to end the day off.

After a breakfast, we visit the Cape Columbine Nature reserve; have an interesting and informative guided tour of the Local Lighthouse with the resident lighthouse keeper. Nearby is the West Coast National Park here one finds the azure waters of the Langebaan Lagoon, focal point of the park. The Langebaan Lagoon is a world Ramsar site (deemed to be of global importance to wetland bird species). We enjoy in the Park at the educational center and we have an opportunity to take a swim in the Lagoon. A slow and easy drive back to the Guest House chance to relax, dinner will be served at our accommodation in the form of a braai.(barbeque) Overnight: 2 nights - Blue Dolphin Guest House. Meals: Breakfast and Dinner.

Days 10 - 12: Cape Town. A farewell to Paternoster and then it’s off to the town of Darling during flower season this town has some very attention-grabbing wild flower reserves. We carry one through mountain passes, vineyards and wheat fields to the small town of Riebeek Kasteel, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves; here we stop at the little Vineyard of Kloovenburg for wine and olive tasting. We continue on to Tulbagh, set in a superb mountain setting this lovely town with a great history is worth a visit. We continue our journey to Wellington via the Bainskloof Pass, a spectacular Scenic drive that is worth seeing for its dramatic view sights. Last stop will be Paarl set at the foot of cluster of amazing granite domes from which this town gets its name, maybe a chance for some wine tasting!

We arrive in Cape Town; where our accommodation is located in Cape Town’s city bowl. The African Villa is very centrally situated half way between the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and Table Mountain it is set in a quiet residential area with a lovely ‘quaint’ feel within a short stroll of the City centre and a large number of its best restaurants.

The last two days of the tour gives you the opportunity to soak up the city, sights and sounds, like a cable car trip up table Mountain and enjoy exceptional views. Take a tour of Cape Peninsula along some one of South Africa’s most scenic and poplar roads, on route to Cape Point, the highlight of the tour. Visit a local African Jackass penguin colony; here one has an unequaled opportunity to observe these wonderful birds .With a number of excellent restaurants in the area you are spoilt for choice. On the last day you will be given time to do shopping before being dropped off at Cape Town airport for your return flight home. Overnight: 2 nights – An African Villa. Meals: Breakfast.
