The Anavilhanas Archipelago is an Ecological Station managed by the Brazilian Institute of Environment - IBAMA. It’s approximately 100km from Manaus and it’s one of the biggest archipelagoes in the world, that by the way, dispute it position with Mariua Archipelago, situated more above the Black River. It posseses an area of 350,018 hectares in the Amazon Northeast part on the Black River, between Novo Airao and Manaus city. In summer, a lot of islands and beaches appear in the river. The archipelago is uninhabited and accessible by boat through the Black River. During the full station, many islands are total or partially flooded.
NOTE: The "Anavilhanas Islands" destination for watching birds in Amazon is new for our Company, and few people have had the privilege to visit these islands. Exactly our team of specialists guides in observation of birds doesn’t know them well because a few time before the Brazilian Institute of the Environment - IBAMA, didn’t allow the access to that area. To visit the Islands it’s necessary to get authorization and payment of tax for Conservation. The daily itinerary for the Anavilhanas islands will be improved and adjusted as far as it goes.
Tour Itinerary:
Days 1, 2 and 3: We´ll leave from Manaus and our trip until the islands will be made using "Bomerangue", a small boat sailing up the admiring pretty landscapes, traveling during approximately 5 hours until arriving at the comfortable Forest Hotel "Apurissawa Lodge", that will be our base.
