Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive and collect your car at Glasgow airport. Travel north along the banks of Loch Lomond to Tarbet. Turn and drive through mountains and glens to Inveraray, rest stop. Continue to Kilmartin Glen, stop to see the standing stones, the Kirk, the old hilltop fort, burial cairns and museum. Almost there - take a detour over the Atlantic! Aye, we do mean it, then end the day at Oban overnight. Here we will arrange your accommodation overlooking Oban Bay towards Mull in the distance.
Day 2: Take the morning ferry to Mull, explore the island and maybe even Iona, return to Oban for your overnight stay. A wonderful day trip taking you back in time to when Christianity arrived into Scotland, from Ireland in the shape of St Columba. Shown below, left to right: Duart Castle, home to Clan Maclean Chiefs. The Abbey at Iona. Maclean's Cross Iona and the Calmac ferry.
Day 3: Head east, visit to Dunstaffnage Castle, drive through our most infamous glen: Glencoe, visit Glenfinnan where Bonnie Prince Charlie arrived on the Scottish mainland in 1745, rest at Spean Bridge woollen mill. East along the Great Glen including: Lochs Lochy, Oich and Ness, Urquhart Castle is an excellent stop, and finally Inverness Overnight.
Day 4: A whole day spent on Orkney, early start, late end, overnight Inverness. Either take the car or go on a day trip by coach. The coach trip leaves at around 7.15am and returns approx 8pm. A long day but well worth the effort. Actually we suggest this means of transport as by driving yourself you will not see as much. Below (top row) left to right: Skara Brae and the Italian Chapel on Orkney. Inverness castle and a sample of the delicious seafood available in Inverness to complete a wonderful day. Below lower row left to right: Culloden Cairn to the fallen Clansmen. Clava Cairns - mysterious cairns and standing stones. River Tay at Perth and Edinburgh's Royal Mile.
Day 5: Step back again into Scottish history with visits to Culloden Battlefield and Clava Cairns. Then head south to Dunkeld and Perth - ancient capital of Scotland and a couple of miles from where most Scots kings have been crowned: Scone Palace. Arrive Edinburgh, stay overnight. Day 6 A free day exploring Edinburgh, overnight again.
Day 7: Sadly it's home this morning.
