Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Rishikesh to Uttarakashi/ Barsu
Day starts with a drive to Uttarakashi which takes through mountain road of Garhwal. It is spectacular drive with views Bhagirathi valley. Bhagurathi river is dammed at Tehri and it forms a reservoir of 22km behind the dam. It takes us 6-7 hours to reach Uttarakashi. Uttarakashi is a big town of this valley which supplies essential stuff to the villagers of near areas.
This place can be very busy during May and June as it is main halt place on the way to Gangotri, one of the major pilgrimages. We will have lunch at Uttarakashi and continue our drive to Village of barsu which can take 1-2 hours. After arrival at the beautiful village of barsu, we check in to a camp where we have our overnight stay and meals. The same evening, we can visit the village to see the local culture. Over night in camp.
Day 2: Barsu to Dayra Bugyal
The day starts early today. While we have our breakfast, our already arrived horse team, start packing all the gear and your bags to load them on the horse. As soon as we finish our break fast, we are on our way. We take it nice and easy and go through the village. Village is still beautiful with rich culture though Govt. has granting funds to develop this village on the name of Eco tourism which, in India means Concrete structures every where. As soon as we get of the village area, we start seeing people working in the field, bring grass or wood from jungle, herding sheep in the mountain.
Also we start heading in to silence of jungle with noise of crickets. The walk through this mixed jungle of different kind of trees takes us to Barnala, a summer settlement of villagers from Barsu. We will have our lunch break here as it is nice meadow with water source close by. After lunch we start with another uphill to wide open meadow with little lake where usually cows are hanging out. Dyara is one and half hour walk from here. Dyara bugyal is at 3150 mtrs and offer great view of Himalaya around. We camp below the small patch of trees where we spend our night in little homes tents.
Day 3: Dayra Bugyal to Syari Bugyal
From Dayara, we start heading to syari bugyal which is not far but it is day to take nice and easy and spend lots of time looking around as the views are one of the best. Once we reach the top of dyara bugyal, walk is all on the ridge of mountain. With one steep ascent, we reach another top and ridge walk from there takes us to final descend of the day to Syari Bugyal (2950m). Altogether it is approx 5 hrs. walk. Over night in tents.
Day 4: Syari bugyal to Surya Top and to Kornkuta thach (meadow)
After break fast, we start our day and trek to Surya top which offer 360 degree view of Himalaya including Bandarpoonch (6350 mtrs), Dropdikadanda (6420 mtrs), Jaonli (6600 mtrs), Srikanth, Gangotri I,II,III and many other peaks. It is best day of our walk on entire trek. From Surya top, we walk back on the ridge and divert to our camping at Kornkutta. Overnight in tents. (6-7 hrs).
Day 5: Kornkuta thatch to Agoda
Today we are leaving behind all these high Himalayan meadows and heading down to valley though mix forest of oak, cedar and rhododendron. Finally goes through a village which is a small summer settlement of villagers of Agoda. It is all down hill walk to reach the camp before Agoda. Overnight in tents.
Day 6: Agoda to Rishikesh
After Breakfast, walk down to the bridge which takes an hour or half and a steep ascent takes to village of Agoda. Agoda is a big village on the way to Dodital (lake), usually full of school groups during the season. Another 2 hours walk brings us to the road head where we board our awaiting vehicles and drive back to Rishikesh. Trip finishes at the arrival in Rishikesh.
