Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Rishikesh to Ghuttu
Start early morning to Ghuttu. It is a 5 hours drive. The road to Tehri is pretty smooth and wide and then it gets a bit rough and narrow. From Tehri, road go down to zero point which is bottom of the Tehri Dam and comes the bridge on Bhagirathi river. We drive across the bridge and take the Tehri –Shrinangar road. Road diverts to Ghansyali from Godiyala. We follow Bhilangna River, all the way up To Ghuttu via Ghansyali. Drive to Ghuttu is nice with amazing scenery. Ghuttu is also known as Bhilang village. It is a last village on the road of this valley.(5-6 hours, 1455m).
Day 2: Ghuttu to Sankari and to Bharon Chatti
We drive from ghuttu to Sankari on the road and start our walk. It is 45 minutes steap up hill to the Bhatgaon and opposite is Lomgaon. After Bhatgaon, trail gets gradual and enter the forest of Oak and rhododendron tree. It takes about 3 hours to get to the Hatkani which is a pass between Bhilangana and buddakedar and offers view of mountain called Kedardom and some other Himalayan Mountain.
On the way we pass through a summer settlement of villager from Bhatgaon called Bhout. Villagers live here during the summer time to graze their animals and grow potatoes. we reach Bharon chatti by after noon. Bharon chatty is famous for its temple of “Bharon Dev”. We camp at meadow by the temple for an over night stay at Bharon chatti. (4-5 hours, 2300m).
Day 3: Bharon chatti to Agonda
We start with a down hill to road head which is under construction and leads to Bhinakha village. It is an hour walk on the road to reach Bhinakha. From Bhinakha, it is a downhill of an hour to Budda Kedar. BuddaKedar (1260m) is small beautiful village at the confluence of two rivers. Budda kedar is known for its temple in the village. Myth is that God Kedarnath grew old in this place.
We visit the temple for short time and proceed to our camping at Agonda village which is 7 km from here and takes about two hours to get there. We camp for an over night stay by the village and by the river. A view of valley is amazing from here. (6-7 hours, 1300m).
Day 4: Agonda to Belak
Day starts with one kilometer walk on the dirt road to Jhala and then uphill starts. It is 11km uphill to Belak. Walk is all through the forest of rhododendron and oak with fresh water running steams. The forest is full of birds of Himalayan species. It takes about 5 hour to get to the top at Belak. Belak is also summer settle of villager from Latta and Malla who come here to graze their animals in the summer plus one or two families run a tea house where they can provide basic meals and an over night stay for trekers going own their own. Belak also offers some nice views of Himalayas. We camp in Belak for an over night stay. (6-7 hours, 2800m).
Day 5: Belak to Latta (1200m) and drive to Gangotri (3000m)
After breakfast, we start with a downhill which takes us to Latta village by Bhagirathi river on Gangotri road. We get to Latta which will take about 4 hours and board our waiting vehicles to drive to Gangotri. It will take us about 3 hours to get to Gangotri. We check in to our lodge for an over night stay. In the evening visit the famous temple of river Ganga. Gangotri is one of the Major pilgrimages for Hindus.
Day 6: Gangotri to Bhojbasa (3800m)
Day starts with small uphill and then trail gets gradual up to Bhojbasa. It is about 15km and takes about 5-6 hours. The wide trail initially passes through dense deodar forests before emerging into the wide afforested valley. It then carries on to a small isolated forest of pine at Chirbasa, literally the abode of pines and finally reaches Bhojbabsa. Bhojbasa has a small temple there and this used be full of Birch tree but unfortunately not anymore there. We camp at Bhojbasa for an over night stay.
Day 7: Bhojbasa to Tapovan (4500m)
Continuing along the pilgrim grassy hillsides. Trail then curves, to unfold a breathtaking view of wild flowers studded meadows crowned by the Bhagirathi group of peaks Camp on a wide sandy beach at Gaumukh, where the holy Ganga gushes out of the snout of the Gangotri glacier, is set in a wide moraine-stream valley Shivling 6540 m, sits looking down like an old learned man, while the Bhagirathi I, II and III tower above.
The trail leaves its way through the terminal moraine before cutting across the Gangotri glacier and climbing steeply up to the grassy slopes to the vast ablation valley of Tapowan. The vast meadows strewn with wild flowers are situated at the base of Shivling. The Bhagirathi peaks are now almost within touching distance. Camp is set in the heart of high mountains country for 2 nights. Trek time : 4-5 hours, 9 km.
Day 8: Day at Tapovan
It is day to relax and enjoy the views of Himalayas. There is option of walking up to ridge to give a look at Meru glacier or a full days walk to the Kirti Bamak glacier and to the base of peaks “Kedarnath Dome 6850 m”, Kirti Bamak 6500 m and to a view of Shivling from the east. Return to camp.
Day 9: Tapovan to Cheerbasa
We find our route back to Cheerbasa and overnight at Cheerbabsa. 4-5 hours and 13km.
Day 10: Cheerbasa to Gangotri (3 hrs) and drive to Uttrakashi (4 hrs)
We walk back to Gangotri and board our vehicles to drive to Uttarakashi. Over night stay at Uttrakashi.
Day 11: Drive to Rishikesh/ Haridwar and train to Delhi.
