Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: We depart from Durban early in the morning of the first day of safari and head north into Zululand to the world famous St Lucia Wetland Game Park. This park has recently been declared a Word Heritage site. You will then board a riverboat and enjoy a boat cruise on the St Lucia estuary, where you will be looking for animals such as hippos, crocodiles and many different species of birds and reptiles that inhabit the mangrove swamps of the estuary. A brief lunch will then be taken on the beach, where you will be able to take a swim in the Indian Ocean or at one of the picnic sites in the St Lucia town with views of the estuary. We will then make our way to the accommodation for the evening inside the Hluhluwe/ Mfolozi Game Park (when available). On our way towards Hilltop, the main camp inside the park we have the opportunity to start our game viewing. The accommodation at Hilltop is 2 bed rondavels with shared ablution blocks and kitchen, and there is also a swimming pool available for your use on hot sweltering days and nights. Dinner on the first night is usually a traditional South African braai, but there is also a restaurant situated in the camp.
Day 2: The second day of the safari will be spent game viewing inside Hluhluwe/ Mfolozi Game Park. We will be at the advantage because we will be starting the day early inside the game park, which gives us more chance of viewing animals. Hluhluwe/ Mfolozi Game Park has a huge variety of animals within its borders. Besides having the highest numbers of rhino found anywhere in the world it also has the full range of species of animals that were found in this area before people arrived with guns. You will have a good opportunity to view the Big 5 as well as many different antelope species as well as different birds and stunning scenery. We remain inside the park for most of the day enjoying lunch at one of the picnic sites. In the late afternoon we leave the park and head back towards Durban, arriving in the evening.
Day 3: The third day will follow on from the 2-day safari. Accommodation for the second night will be spent at Hilltop camp. The third day will be spent in parts of the park not yet visited, and will give you the chance for further game viewing, looking for the elusive cats as well as a chance to study the animals in a more leisurely fashion. You will also have the opportunity to see the whole park in all its beauty and diversity. We will return to Durban in the early evening.
