On 5th April 2009 a very special event is going to take place in Jerusalem. This rare event allures thousands of people from all around the globe, as well as locals who call it the "Jerusalem Carnival" and wait for the scheduled date the whole year around. During the day the city streets do change their look completely: one will see colorful uniforms of the scouts marching around, hear sounds of trumpets and drums, meet groups of dancing monks on the streets accompanied with their guitars, pilgrims dressed in their national clothes who gather to the Holy City just to walk on this precise route in this precise day.
The event is the Palm Sunday celebration, the day that starts the Christian Holy Week of Easter. The feast commemorates the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem in the days before his Passion (Mark 11:1-11, Matthew 21:1-11, Luke 19:28-44, and John 12:12-19). Indeed, it is the most colorful event of Jerusalem. According to the estimations it attracts up to 30,000 each year. They gather to Jerusalem to participate in the official procession that goes down Mt. of Olives in His footsteps into the Old City, the same route it is described 2000 years ago. Songs, dances, pilgrims from all around, dancing monks and street parades making the event an unforgettable experience. If you haven?t seen it, it is a must!
