Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival at the Douala International airport, reception and transfer to hotel, brief description of Cameroon, proper explanation of tour by guide. Dinner and night at the Foyer du Marine Hotel.
Day 2: Early wake up, birding on the mud flats in Douala (if possible by boat for about 4 hours). After lunch we drive to Buea at the foot of Mount Cameroon birding on the way. Dinner and overnight at OIC Pavillion.
Day 3: Early wake up to go birding for the whole day on Mount Cameroon. We will climb about 2500m often on rough trails and return around 16.00 and drive to Kumba. Expected to see African Grey Parrots, Mount Cameroon Francolin, Yellow-billed Turaco, Fernandopo Olive-back, Mount Cameroon Speirops, Yellow-breasted Boubou, Mountain Robin Chat, Mountain Saw-wing, Western Mountain Greenbul and others. Dinner and overnight at Elongo Gardens Hotel.
Day 4: Early wake up to bird Barombi Mbo Lake and return for breakfast before continuation to Mundemba. We shall get to Mundemba by evening, have dinner and overnight in Boseme Inn.
Day 5: After early breakfast we drive to the Mana foot bridge, where we will do some birding and continue to the Rengo camp (Be prepared for a long distance forest walk (8 km) in hot and humid conditions. Expected to see African Grey Parrot, Rock Pratincole, Hadada Ibisis, Grey Heron, Great Blue Turaco, Green Hylia, Ictering Greenbul, Brown Illadopsis, Blue Cuckoo Shrike, Brown Chested Allethe, Red Bellied Paradise Flycatcher, Western Black-Headed Oriole, Yellow Bellied Wattle-eye, Shinning Drongo, Black Casqued Hornbill, Yellow Throated Tinker Bird, Rufous Flycatcher Thrush and many more.
After lunch and a rest we will visit the Picathartes knoll to see the endemic Red-headed Picathartes return to their roost. This is a basic camp with no electricity and you will need to bring your own sleeping bag. Meals will be simple and prepared by the local guide and porters. To make sure you see the Rock Fowl you may consider adding an extra day here. Contact us for details Breakfast, lunch, dinner and overnight at camp.
Day 6: Early wake-up and breakfast. We will bird on the return track to the bridge and arrive by noon, where a stand-by vehicle will take us to Nyassoso. Be prepared for a very long and rough drive. Dinner and overnight in the Women’s Centre.
Day 7: Early breakfast before we start climing Mount Kupe for a whole day of birding returning late afternoon. Be prepared for rough and steep trails. Expected to see; Naked-faced Barbet, Spotted Greenbul, Chestnut Wattle-eye, Brown-Crowned Eremomela, White-spotted Flufftail, Emerald Cuckoo, Black-throated Apalis, African Harrier Hawk, Red-eyed Puffback, Yellow Longbill, Red-necked Buzzard, Mount Kupe Bush Shrike, Purple-throated Cuckoo-Shrike, Grey Parrot, Yellow-breasted Boubou, Grey-headed Broadbill, Bar-Tailed Trogon and many more. We will do some night birding looking for Owls and Nightjars. Dinner and overnight in the Women’s Centre.
Day 8: Early breakfast and drive to the Bakossi Mountain in the village of Kodmin or Lake Edip where we will bird all day and return at dusk. Expected to see; Naked-faced Barbet, Spotted Greenbul, Chestnut Wattle-eye, Brown-crowned Eremomela, White-Spotted Flufftail, Emerald Cuckoo, Black-throated Apalis, African Harrier Hawk, Red-eyed Puffback, Yellow Longbill, Red-necked Buzzard, Mount Kupe Bush Shrike, Purple-throated Cuckoo-Shrike, Grey Parrot, Yellow-breasted Boubou, Grey-headed Broadbill, Bar-tailed Trogon and many more. Dinner and overnight in the Women’s Centre.
Day 9: Early breakfast and drive to Bamenda while birding on the way
Dinner and overnight at Ayaba Hotel.
Day 10: Early breakfast and drive to Big Babanki(3 hours hiking) or Nguemba Forest Reserve in Bafut. Expect: Banded Wattle-eye, Bamenda Apalis, Bannerman’s Turaco and Weaver, Bate’s Weaver, Oriole Finch, Bangwa Forest Warbler, Mountain Boubou, Africa Green Pigeon, Yellow Bishop, Cameroon Mountain Greenbul, Chestnut-winged Starling, Petit’s Saw-wing, Short-toed Eagle, Cassin’s Hawk-Eagle, Red-Necked Buzzard, Brown-backed cisticula and many more. We will do some night birding looking for Owls and Nightjars. Dinner and overnight at Ayaba Hotel.
Day 11: After an early breakfast we drive to Awing do some birding around the lake. After lunch we continue to Limbe via Dschang and Santcho birding on the way. Dinner and overnight at Miramare Hotel.
Day 12: Early wake up to bird the Limbe Botanic Garden and after breakfast we will visit the Wildlife Centre. In the afternoon, we visit the 1999 lava flow at Bakingili and birdthe beach returning at dusk. Evening birding at Down Beach, dinner at the Fish Market.
Expect: Western Blue-bill, Giant Kingfisher, Long-tailed Cormorant, Carmelite Sunbird, Palm-nut Vulture, Violet-tailed Sunbird, Yellow-casqued Hornbill, Green Turaco, Western Reef Egret, African Grey Parrot and more. Dinner and overnight at Miramare Hotel.
Day 13: Bird early morning in the Botanical Garden and after lunch we drive to Douala birding on the way. In Douala we will bird the mud flats behind Foyer du Marine, do some shopping and farewell dinner before escort you to the Douala International Airport for your return flight.
