The "Salzkammergut" - the country of sound an music - is one of the most charming regions in Austria: blue lakes, high mountains, green meadows and forests - a storybook landscape. The lakes Mondsee, Attersee, Traunsee and Wolfgangsee are the most wellknown lakes. Not to forget the ancient emperor's residence in Bad Ischl and the music and festival town Salzburg, where the famous composer Mozart was born.

TOUR PROFILE: country roads, cycle paths, field paths; the terrain is hilly - some longer uphills.

Day 1:
SALZBURG:

Individual arrival.

SALZBURG - GOSAU: 35 miles

On the "Tauern Cycle Path" along the river Salzach to Hallein (salt mine museum) and Golling; in the afternoon transfer to the "Lammer"-Valley to the lake Gosau (marvellous panoramic view to the Dachstein mountains).

Day 3:
GOSAU - OBERTRAUN: 36 miles

Through the Gosau-Valley to the lake Hallstättersee; with a local train uphill to Bad Aussee; passing the lakes Grundlsee and Toplitzsee you reach Obertraun at the ground station of the Dachstein-Cable-Car.

Day 4:
OBERTRAUN - LAKE ST. WOLFGANG: 24 miles

Possibility of visiting the biggest caves of Europe with fantastiv formation of ice culptures; bike tour via Bad Goisern to Bad Ischl - the wellknown old residence of empress "Sisi" and lake St. Wolfgang.

Day 5:
ST. WOLFGANG - GMUNDEN/PINSDORF: 27 miles

Bike trip through the Wolfgang-Valley and along the river Traun to Ebensee on the lake Traunsee; boat trip on the lake; per bike to Gmunden (typical Austrian ceramics) and Pinsdorf.

Day 6:
GMUNDEN/PINSDORF - LAKE ATTERSEE: 28 miles

You cycle through the valley "Aurachtal" to Seewalchen at the lake Attersee.

LAKE ATTERSEE - SALZBURG: 42 miles

On the cycle path "Attergauradweg" along the lake Mondsee to the village MOndsee, passing Thalgau you reach Salzburg again.
