Imagine. A trip that brings together a one of a kind rail experience into the Canadian wilderness and one of the most exciting back country canoeing experiences in Northern Ontario. Followed by a trip aboard the Algoma Central Railway to Sand Lake, we will embark on a five day wilderness canoe trip down the world-renowned Sand River. Traversed by native people for thousands of years, we'll be travelling on an ancient canoe route. This scenic river runs from the north-east corner of Lake Superior Provincial Park to the Lake Superior coast. The scenery changes from lowland forest to wetlands, hardwood hills and cliffs. Wildlife viewing is at a premium. The Sand maintains mostly class 1 and class 2 rapids, all of which can be portaged. Our focus is on wilderness rather than white water. Our trip is leisurely paced to include time out for afternoon hiking, wildlife viewing and fishing for the famous Sand River Brook Trout.
