We start just outside of Silverton, CO to traverse the Continental Divide through the Weminuche Wilderness. We travel 6 of the 8 days at an average elevation of 12,000'. The trip ends on top of Wolf Creek Pass about 100 miles later.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Meet at our ranch to pack gear, meet people and to travel to the trailhead. From there we travel approximately 15 miles to our first nights camp. Crossing over Starvation pass. This is where John C. Freemont left his troop to starve one winter. (L) (D)
Day 2: We move camp to our summer base camp traveling about 15 miles. During this days ride we keep an eye out for the "Lost Spanish Mine" and for our local wildlife. (B) (L) (D)
Day 3: A day off from riding to relax, shower, watch Moose, Elk, Deer and to fish if folks are inclined. Also to get resupplied with grain for the horses. (B) (L) (D)
Day 4: Pack up and move camp to our next location. This is a long ride. About 20 - 25 miles, all above timberline. By now everyone is ready for the long ride. Spectacular day, as if the other days were not! (B) (L) (D)
Day 5: Day off for the horses. Yesterday was long. A chance for folks to fish one of the many timberline lakes and again to relax. (B) (L) (D)
Day 6: On the move again. Today is a bit shorter, about 18 miles, Like all the other days the scenery is spectacular as much of the day is spent above timberline and one can see forever. (B) (L) (D)
Day 7: The best for the last full day. Horses take us to above 13,000' for an incredible view of the country. The highest point along the Continental Divide trail for the horses. (B) (L) (D)
Day 8: The last day and the tears begin. "No don't send me back to the real world" About a 15 mile ride to the top of Wolf Creek Pass. Once off the pass we stop in Pagosa Springs to have a late lunch or early supper and then back to our ranch in Durango. (B) (L) (D)
