Tour departure on demand. Whakatane, Opotiki, Gisborne and Te Araroa were one of the first Maori settlements in NZ. This tour for small groups travelling by minibus focuses on history and nature.
Your Itinerary:
Day 1: Fly from Auckland to Whakatane Airport. The afternoon is for getting to know each other. However, you have the following options: Helicopter trip to the active volcano White Island and take a guided tour there or do a 2 hour beach walk from Kohi Point.
Day 2: Drive through the Waioeka Gorge to Gisborne. Easy 2 - 3 h. bush walk. Eastwoodhill Arboretrum, Grey's Bush, Gisborne sightseeing, overnight in Gisborne.
Day 3: Drive to Lottin Point. Tolaga Bay and Cooks Cove Walk (if walkway is open), Tikitiki, Te Araroa and the largest Pohutukawa tree in the world. Walk up to the East Cape Lighthouse, overnight near Lottin Point
Day 4: Drive to Motu River. Cape Runaway, Waihau Bay, Whanarua Bay. Jetboat Tour on the Motu River. This river boasts a unique, unspoiled landscape and the jetboat is the only medium to gain access to it. Fly back to Auckland or stay overnight in Whakatane or Rotorua in order to continue the six day tour.
Day 5: Discover the Rotorua Thermal Areas and admire the geysers. Follow us to Waimangu and Whakarewarewa. Have a sightseeing tour through Rotorua, have a swim at the Polynesian Pools or visit Government Garden and the old Bath House, which now hosts the museum.
Day 6: In the morning there is time to visit the Agrodrome where you can learn all about New Zealand sheep. Before you depart from Rotorua Airport in the early afternoon we take you to Okere Falls for a short walk.
