Short on time? This is the best Western vacation going. Two days riding horses, and sharing stories about how big the deer were … followed by two of the best days the Colorado River has to offer. Short scenic flights make it all possible. The variety of experiences alone will stun your senses.
Westwater's rapids on this trip are created when the swift flowing Colorado River is forced through Granite Canyon, a narrow seam of polished black schist capped with red slickrock towers. Virtually unknown 30 years ago, Westwater Canyon has become a favorite choice for its pace, rhythm, and intensity.
Tavaputs Ranch is located in the remote wilderness of the Tavaputs Plateau, in east-central Utah. Access to the Ranch is provided by small plane. In addition to recreational activities, Tavaputs offers a rich history of early American ranch life for visitors to experience and enjoy.

Tour Itinerary:
One of the advantages of a river trip is the flexibility of the daily itinerary. It can vary widely from one trip to the next based on group desires, Mother Nature, and courtesy for other groups on the river. This typical itinerary illustrates a four-day ranch/river combination trip.
Day 1 - Fly into Tavaputs Ranch from Green River. Unpack at lodge, and enjoy the first of several country style meals prepared at the ranch. After lunch, guests can enjoy horseback riding, walking, or simply relaxing in the mountains. An evening campfire completes the day before retiring to the ranch style cabins. Includes: (L),(D);
Day 2 - Tavaputs Ranch is surrounded on all sides by wilderness. This region plays host to an abundance of wildlife including deer, elk, birds of prey, bears, and many other varieties of animals. More horseback riding, 4 X 4 tours, walking, and exploring give guests the opportunity to view some of this wildlife. Includes: (B),(L),(D);
Day 3 - Fly to Green River and transfer to passenger van for shuttle to the put-in at Westwater Ranger Station. Relaxing float to Little Hole Canyon's natural amphitheater where shards of Indian pottery can be seen. In favorable conditions a short hike up Little Dolores Canyon reveals a beautiful desert waterfall and swimming hole. Camp near Little Dolores. Includes: (B),(L),(D);
Day 4 - Leisurely breakfast before rapids of Westwater. Rapids, one right after another, Marble, Staircase, Hunter's, Funnel Falls, and Surprise … lead to Skull Rapid, one of the Colorado's fiercest drops. Finish with Bowling Alley, Sock-it-to-me and Last Chance. Vans will return you to our headquarters in Green River at the end of the trip. Includes: (B),(L).
