Rockart has long been a passion for us. These trailrides feature petroglyphs and pictographs of Capitol Reef National Park and San Rafael Swell. The trips are segmented from are scheduled rides into these areas. Gary George will serve as interpretive specialist adding focus and depth to the rockart panels we visit in these patina stained, redrock canyons. The panels vary from archaic to historic and are located at remote sites. Emphasis is placed on Fremont and Basketmaker Periods with special attention to Barrier Canyon style.
Gateway City: Torrey, Utah for drive and fly/drive travelers; and, St. George, Utah for fly only travelers with our optional transfer package including post-trip lodging. Accommodations: 1 night inn logding; and, 4 nights deluxe basecamping. (Guests booking the transfer package will have an additional night inn lodging, post-trip.)
Your Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive scenic Torrey, Utah and check into the Capitol Reef Inn. Torrey is a town of a little over 200 population which is located at the junction of highways 12 and 24 near the west entrance of Capitol Reef National Park. The Capitol Reef Inn is located on highway 24 at the west end of Torrey. At 8:00pm meet at the Capitol Reef Inn's Bookstore and Gift Shop for an orientation and final packing session with your trip leader and the trip's interpretative specialist.
Participants booking our optional transfer package from St. George, Utah, will meet at 1:00pm in the lobby of the St. George Resort and Spa located at 1450 South Horizon Drive.
Day 2: After breakfast, you'll travel a short distance down the road to Hondoo's headquarters. Transfers will be provided as needed. Hondoo's headquarters are located on highway 24 in the middle of downtown Torrey. At Hondoo's office and gift shop, we'll pack your gear in the camp 4X4, meet the remainder of the crew and your horse, then depart (9:00am) for our trailhead. From there we'll mount our horses and journey to our basecamp visiting rockart panels enroute. (L/D).
Day 3: After breakfast and preparing lunch, explore the canyon country and experience prehistoric rockart sites before returning home to a hot shower and cold drinks. (B/L/D).
Days 4 & 5: Rockart, Riding, Relaxation, Exploring, Enjoying! Just a few days in Paradise. (B/L/D).
Day 6: Departure day. After packing personal gear and breaking camp, you will ride to the trailhead where you'll exchange your saddle seat for the cushioned comfort of a vehicle ride to town. You'll arrive Torrey late afternoon. Guests booking the transfer package will return for final night lodging at the St. George Resort and Spa. (B/L).
