We paddle from bay to bay camping on a different beach each night. There will be ample time to snorkel and hike each day. A visit to the sea lion colony to snorkel with the pups is for many, one of the trip highlights. Then mid week there is a full day to explore the enchanting seaside town of La Paz, to sample a wonderful seafood restaurant and perhaps buy a souvenir from one of the many craft shops. For the final two days we transfer to Magdalena Bay on the Pacific coast for an unforgettable encounter with the magnificent Gray Whales. Small motor boats enable us to quickly locate and mingle with these amazingly friendly whales - often they swim alongside permitting the unique experience of petting these gentle giants.
Your Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrive in La Paz, check into hotel. 9.00pm. Meet guides for trip briefing.
Day 2 – Transfer to Espiritu Santo Island. Introduction to our mixed fleet of sea-kayaks and correct use of gear/paddles and safety talk. First day sea-kayaking and snorkeling. Set camp. Includes: (B) (L) (D)
Day 3 – Continue along island, exploring some offshore islands with Pelican rookery. Arrive at new camping beach. Afternoon time to snorkel and hike canyon to discover fascinating rock formations and take a refreshing well water shower. Includes: (B) (L) (D)
Day 4 – Complete kayaking trip to the end of the island. Last night camping. Includes: (B) (L) (D)
Day 5 – Opportunity to practice some kayak skills or go for another canyon hike. Then skiff ride to a magnificent sea lion colony (Los Islotes) to experience the incredible thrill of swimming with sea lion pups and to snorkel amongst thousands of tropical fish. Lunch back at camp then return to La Paz for night in hotel. Includes: (B) (L) (D)
Day 6 – Recovery day! Enjoy a pleasant stroll around this picturesque seaside town. Browse in many Mexican arts and crafts shops or if you would rather a more active day we'll set you up with a mountain bike, or a day fishing or wind surfing. A margarita at sunset on the famous sea promenade has become a La Paz tradition! Includes: (B) (L) (D)
Day 7 – Transfer to the small fishing village of Lopez Mateos. A fast motor skiff will take us out on the Bay of Magdalena where we will spend an exciting 3 hours Whale-watching. Relax in comfortable hotel. Includes: (B) (L) (D)
Day 8 – From Port San Carlos we will have a second chance to get a really close encounter with the whales. Last season several of our groups experienced the whales swimming alongside the pangas giving them an opportunity to pet them. After lunch we will transfer back to La Paz. Farewell dinner included. Guests are responsible for bringing their own sleeping bags. Snorkel sets and wetsuits may be rented.
