Your Itinerary

Day 1: Meet your tour leader, driver and travelling companions at the Holiday Inn Crown Plaza, Sandton, Johannesburg at 7:30am. At 8am head east to Mpumalanga, the land of the rising sun. Travel past the mining town of Witbank and historical Middelburg towards Belfast, a centre for sheep and dairy farming, maize, potatoes and timber.

Continue through South Africa's trout fishing capital, Dullstroom, on to Lydenburg on the eastern escarpment. The Abel Erasmus pass transports you to the lowveld arriving in time for lunch at Thornybush Game Lodge. Explore the Lodge, then enjoy refreshments before setting off on an evening game drive in an open 4x4 safari vehicle. Experienced trackers and rangers will point out animal tracks and follow them, giving you a taste of the nocturnal wildlife as night falls. Return to the lodge for a Boma dinner under the stars around a roaring fire. Hotel/Lodge: Thornybush Game Reserve or similar. Includes: (L), (D);

Day 2: After a quick cup of tea or coffee set off with the rangers for a dawn game viewing trip. A hearty breakfast awaits you upon your return. Enjoy the remainder of the morning at will. Why not take a close up look at the African bush on a walk with a ranger? Return to the lodge for lunch and relax for the afternoon. Regroup for refreshments before setting off for an evening game viewing trip. Dinner awaits you at the lodge. Hotel/Lodge: Thornybush Game Reserve or similar. Includes: (B), (L), (D);

Day 3: This morning witness wildlife in the sunrise hours for the last time on the dawn game viewing trip. After breakfast depart for the Hoedspruit Research and Breeding Centre for Endangered Species where breeding programmes for threatened species such as cheetahs and wild dogs have received international recognition. Feast your eyes on vistas of the Olifants River Valley, the eastern lowveld and the spectacular Blyde River Canyon, all part of the Panorama Route.

Scenic highlights of the trip include extraordinary potholes and rock formations known as Bourke's Potholes, named after the owner of Bourke's Luck, the site of a once profitable gold mine and God's Window, a majestic view across the lowveld to Mozambique. Time permitting, stop at Pilgrim's Rest, a village practically unchanged since the Gold Rush and soak up history, folklore and curios galore. A warm South African welcome and buffet dinner awaits you at your hotel, the Sabie River Sun. Hotel/Lodge: Thornybush Game Reserve or similar. Includes: (B), (D);

Day 4: Your day begins with breakfast and departure for Johannesburg via Mpumalanga's capital, Nelspruit. The tour ends upon arrival in the late afternoon. Includes: (B).
