You will follow in the footsteps of the Corps of Discovery and cross magnificent vistas and old trails and then trace their route by river travel on the beautiful Clearwater River. Qualified guides will take you on this combo adventure and make your tour of discovery with us an exciting, enjoyable, and educational experience.
Your Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Lewiston, Idaho. Lodging at the Sacajawea Motel, Welcome dinner at the Helm Restaurant at 7:00pm. (D).
Day 2: Van to Saddle Camp. Visit Spaulding Museum, Canoe Camp in Orofino, Idaho, White Eagle-Nez Perce Art Shop, Drive by Fords Creek (Formerly Village Creek) where Clark first arrived at the Clearwater River in September 1805, Kamiah, Idaho - lunch in the park by the river, Heart of the Monster-Nez Perce Park, Lochsa-Historic Ranger Station, then arrive at camp - dinner, campfire activities, songs and stories. (B/L/D).
Day 3: Horseback ride to the Smoking Place, Sinque Hole, and Indian Grave, then return to camp for dinner, campfire activities, songs and stories. (B/L/D).
Day 4: Breakfast and depart by Van for river tour. Streamside deli lunch precedes launch from Fords Creek (Village Creek) to private Riverside Fir Bluff Tepee & Canoe Camp. Sites and topics include: Chief Twisted Hair’s Island Encampment, China Island-Lewis & Clark’s 1st campsite on the Clearwater, Orofino Creek (Rock Dam Creek), Lewis & Clark’s 1805 & 1806 campsites and river crossings, Archeological site at Lenore, Nez Perce History & Cultural Information, Stern Wheeler & RR History, Gold Rush Days Tales, Lewis & Clark’s campsites at Lenore and our own Fir Bluff Tepee & Canoe Camp, River Ecology and area Flora & Fauna. (B/L/D).
Day 5: Leisurely breakfast, Camp activities include: primitive cooking techniques, fire starting, bow shooting, hatchet throwing, edible plant hike, country lunch. We will pass more Stern Wheeler, Nez Perce and Lewis & Clark’s Historical Sites on the Clearwater River including Lewis & Clark’s 1805 & 1806 campsites. Arrive at take-out site where a van will pick you up and return you to the Sacajawe Motor Inn for a Farewell Dinner at 7:00pm and a good night’s sleep. (B/D).
